I could really use some advice. We want to stay at a moderate resort with free dining over the Christmas break. On this trip, we are a group of 5, including my 88 year old active and surprisingly fit dad. He works out and stays in good shape, but he has a bad ankle. After walking the parks for an hour or so, it hurts and swells up, so he wants to leave. He is too proud to use a wheelchair. He is also very impatient. We usually book FPs early in the day so that we can take him back to the resort to lounge by the pool to rest until dinner.
Our favorite mod, hands down, is the CBR. We love the tropical vibe, the colorful landscaping, the music, the pool areas, and the refurbished rooms. We usually hang out at a quiet pool when not in the parks. We do enjoy visiting the shop and the food court, although we don't eat many meals there. We have stayed at the CBR many times, even over the holidays.
We have also stayed at the CSR over the holidays and enjoyed it. We have only stayed in the Cabanas area for long stays. We did stay in the Ranchos for one day and did not enjoy the look or feel of the area. I really don't want to stay in the Ranchos at all. We aren't big fans of the CSR food court, but I think my dad will like it. (He has never stayed there before.)
We were able to book two rooms yesterday at the CSR with free dining for our upcoming stay. I am now second-guessing our choice. Both mods will be undergoing major construction at that time. The reason why we chose CSR is primarily for the food court/bar area. We have experienced weather in the 80's over Christmas as well as weather in the 40s over Christmas. If we chose the CBR, we would have to deal with no food court, limited dining, and outside beverage availability. The CSR has all of the food and dining choices under one warm, dry roof.
Given our love of the CBR and our worry about being assigned a Ranchos room, did we make the right choice? Are there other specific factors that we should consider that will help us decide? I'm not sure how long we have to switch to the CBR, (if that is the way we wind up going,) due to limited free dining availability. Any input/help is greatly appreciated!
