Right now I have a reservation for CBR. I was fairly sure I saw that the hub for the Skyliner is at the Riviera but now I'm seeing a station at CBR on a map. So I think I have this straight (and please tell me if I don't)-The station at CBR takes you to the hub at Riviera only. The hub at Riviera handles all the lines (Pop/AOA, CBR, Epcot, Studios). I can't take a direct route to Epcot or Studios from the CBR station. So if I stay at CBR, it would make sense to ask for a room near Riviera and walk there for the Skyliner and restaurants. That is the only current transportation option for Epcot and Studios from those resorts unless the Skyliner goes down, correct?

You have it backwards. Hub is at CBR (southwest side of resort) and the station at Riviera is just a pass through.

From the CBR (hub) station you can board lines to Epcot, HS, or AoA/Pop. If you board the skyliner to Epcot at CBR, you go through the Riviera station and stay in the same cabin... the doors just open as you go through the station.

The Hub station is at CBR.

If traveling from POP/AoA you exit the tram at CBR and get on the line that goes to HS or the line that goes to Epcot with a stop at Riveria.

So there's no real advantage to being closer to the CBR hub or the Riviera hub for Skyliner purposes?

If you want to get to DHS you want to be closer to the CBR hub. If you get on at the Riviera station you would take that to the CBR hub, then change lines to DHS. If you aren't planning on going to DHS and only plan on taking the Skyliner to Epcot than it wouldn't matter as much, I have no idea what the wait would be like at the Riviera since not too many people are getting off there and I don't know how many empty gondolas they are sending out.

be prepared to wait in very long lines if trying to get to the studios at rope drop. during covid with not being able to pack the cars to capacity, it took 3x as long. very frustraiting.

Riviera just has a station, its not a hub. CBR is the only hub.

IMO, its better to be closer to the CBR hub because it would not require a transfer. You can board the line directly to DHS, or board the Epcot line. As mentioned, the Epcot line from CBR does make a stop at Riviera, but you do not have to get off or change lines.

If you board at the Riviera station, you can go directly Epcot with no stops. But to go to DHS, you'd have to exit at the CBR hub and transfer to the DHS line. That could mean you have to wait a second time in line to board the line to DHS, depending what time you're going and how busy it is.

The CBR hub also has a great Joffrey's stand outside. We liked grabbing a pastry and an iced coffee from there in the mornings. We stayed in Jamaica 42 which was much closer to the Skyliner/Joffrey's than it was to the food court.
