Anyone have any suggestions on a catholic church that is close to downtown disney other than Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine? Do you know the mass time for Saturday evening or early Sunday morning.

Thanks

we were at Disneyworld at Easter. The congregation from Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine put on a wonderful Catholic service for us at the Contemporary. Before I found out that there would be a special service for Easter I looked at this website http://www.masstimes.org/dotnet/Default.aspx which lists various catholic churches in the U.S. I think the closest was the Shrine though.

There is a new parish in Celebration - Corpus Christi -http:/www.Celebrationcatholic.org/. They currently meet in Celebration high school. Father Gregory is extremely nice, and the people are very welcoming.

We most often go to Holy Family Catholic Community, 5125 S. Apopka Vineland Rd. Phone 407-876-2211.

We have been to that one too as well as the Shrine. I don't much care for the commercial nature of the Shrine. I liked when they had masses at the Polynesian, but they did away with that quite a while ago. I'll likely try out the one in Celebration this time.

Bobbi,
Do you have directions to Holy Family?

Jean--sorry to butt in on your request to Bobbi. If you get a chance, try the link above. I typed in Kissimmee, FL. It gives you many choices, addresses, phone numbers, map, and Mass times. I went to Holy Family so many years ago it was in the boonies and at a time when the shrine was only a glimmer of an idea. The website will be useful anywhere you travel. :)

We also go to the Mass at Celebration High School. I believe the Mass is at 5:00 pm on Saturday's and twice on Sunday's. We have only been to the 5. The last time we were there they had a Christening and I was crying, it was so moving. The pastor, Fr Gregory, is wonderful and TALL. I thought the first time we went that he was on a platform.....Nope, he is just TALL, probably close to 7 ft.

Hi! Just in case people haven't found directions to Holy Family, from the Boardwalk, we pass DTD, the Hilton and make a left when we get to the "T" straight would take you into the Goodings Shopping center. Stay on that road for about 8-10 miles, Holy Family is on the right. Once you know where it is, you may want to get there on Sand Lake Rd off of Rt. 4, but the drive on Apopka-Vineland is just fine, very little traffic on a Sunday morning.

It is my hope that we'll be parishoners there someday.

At home, we have some Masses in our parish gym, I just don't like a gym atmosphere for church and the Shrine is too big, I find Holy Family, "just right."

Another option is Holy Cross http://holycrossorlfl.catholicweb.com/. It is very easy to get to. Just go to 417 (like you got to the airport) and take that to John Young Parkway. Turn left when you get off, and go down about 1 mile. That is a very nice parish too. That is where we always went before they started the parrish in Celebration.

Father Gregory IS the tallest priest I have ever seen. A funny story he told this summer...The Bucs always have a mass said before games, and when he went to do it, the players were surprised. he said it was probably the only time they had a priest bigger than they were. He has a great sense of humor.
