For any who have stayed in a category 8, how was the location?

We are currently booked in a category 8 and am concerned about being in the front of the ship. If you stayed in a cat. 8 and remember the room number can you please share it along with your opinion on the room and the location of the room.

Thanks
Joanna

We have not been in a Cat. 8, but we have been in the non-adjoining secret porthole rooms (5520 and 5020), and we have found forward to be a good location. You may feel a bit of motion if the seas are really rough, but probably nothing to speak of. The forward elevators are rarely very crowded, and it's a convenient location to the nightclubs and theater...just head down the stairs.

We were in a cat. 10 this past Feb. on deck 7 and loved the forward location. We went thru some storms early in the week where we had some decent movement in the ship and it didn't bother any of us. We booked cat. 8 for Feb. 2004 across the hall (700?) because we loved the location. The halls were quiet as in this hallway we were forward of the elevators and the ships officers offices were the only thing forward of the cabins. It was easy to walk up the stairs to the pools and down to the theatre and shops. The elevators weren't as busy as the others either.

Hi,

Have been in 7008 on the wonder and 7512 on the magic. The location is fine, no noise or traffic problems. Did feel gentle motion
at night but nothing severe. I do take boninie for sea sickness but no one else in my family took any and they all did fine. Have a wonderful trip.

We were on room 6014 on the Wonder. I was concerned also, because I'd learned about the more noticeable motion from these boards AFTER I'd booked the room, and was really concerned with motion sickness. NO PROBLEMS at all!

We really loved it, since this last time it was just DH and myself, and being forward worked out great with getting to most of the adult areas. The large porthole was wonderful! natt

DW, DS (7 now, 6 during cruises) and I stayed in 7004 on the Wonder and 7014 on the Magic during the past year and loved the location. Agree with other posts that there is some gentle motion, but nothing to make anyone ill (we took nothing and wore no patches). Very convenient to Deck 9 and the pools, the entertainment, even to use the stairs going to the restaurants. Quiet location. And re: feeling some motion--it is a cruise, after all, and the feel of the ocean should be part of that. Same room as the first couple categories with verandas or navigator verandas, but we loved the huge picture window and didn't feel the need for the veranda--instead used the difference in $ toward the second cruise.

We had a category 8 last April, but I don't recall the exact number. It was midship on the outside.

We LOVED deck 2. It was low enough and in the center of gravity that the ship's movement was less obvious. It was just a flight or two up to decks 3 and 4, where a lot of the action is.

Joanne:

On our shared cruise (5/11) we were in 7005. We really liked being forward. I could feel motion, but I felt it everywhere that trip (I think because we were moving really fast!).

On our Jan trip, we booked 7504. We got a free upgrade to 7538, which was nearly mid-ship. I didn't notice any difference between forward and mid on that trip. Overall, the boat was moving much slower, since it had less distance to travel, so there was almost no noticable motion.

I'd say keep the location and enjoy!

yea what she said just go Jo and have a great time ..........
we have ben all over the ship it rocks sometimes
forward aft mid take some pills u wont even notice
that is what jen does non drowsy dramamine

We are booked in 7000 on the 5/18 Wonder.
Good to hear all of these positive experiences!!

Luvstiigger too...Tell us how the room and location was when you get back.

Thanks all for your input, as always I appreciate it.

DH wants a verandah, but I am starting to believe like everyone else says that i'll use the money towards other things. Tried to get the SPR when we booked (exactly a year in advance) and they were all booked already. WOW can you believe it, and there doesn't even seem to be alot of DISers on that cruise.

Thanks
Joanna

Far forward is our ideal location. Perfect for using the non-crowded forward stairs, access to Quiet Cove Pool, Signals Bar, Clubs, Theater and Spa! We decided to always book forward from now on because of a great experience last time!

Our first, second, and upcoming 3rd cruise we'll be in 6512. We love it. It is a quiet area of the ship. The forward elevators are never as busy as those midship.
Re: movement It's no worse than anywhere else on the ship. Our "Western" cruise earlier this month was extremely smooth. Remember, it's a ship at sea. It will roll, pitch, and yaw. The degree of it, however, is normally minimal.

Back from our 5/18 Wonder Cruise.
We were in 7000. Very far forward...in fact it is the first room. We loved it! The porthole is very large. We have a great picture of the four of us in front of the porthole. I will try to post.

It was plenty roomy for me, DH, DD12 and DS9.

We were never in our room long enough to have enjoyed a verandah! The porthole was perfect!

Let me know if you have any more specific questions about space, etc.

We were in room 5516 last December and we have SPR 5520 this December (two doors down). I liked the location; the Oceaneer's Club and Buena Vista Theater are on the same deck and the ship's stores are a quick walk one deck below.

We stayed in Cat 8 during our cruise in 1999. We are also booked in Cat 8 for our next cruise on 8/2/03. I am notorious for getting motion sick -- ANYWHERE -- plane, bus, boat, car, etc., so I was a little nervous. NO PROBLEM! I had a wonderful trip, the location was fine. We also didn't opt for a verandah this trip, but our friends did. It was $1,000 more and we felt that we could use that money toward excursions and other stuff. I loved the big porthole window, it helped to see where you were going and I also didn't mind being Forward. Hope it helps!

allforpooh,

SPR stands for Secret Porthole Room; these are six Category 10 rooms that have "obstructed view" portholes (5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522, 5524). Cat. 10 cabins are normally inside cabins with no portholes. Go to this site for more info on the rooms:

Thanks! for the info - we are still trying to decide on either 2 cat 10 rooms or 1 cat 6 room... It will be myself, DH, DD 11, DD18-
