Never done the cruise before and am totally clueless about the staterooms! Looking at a category 8 or 9. Any suggestions, warnings, comments on this to help a cruise newbie out?!??!

THANKS, in advance!

Hi, and welcome to cruising... dcltribute.com, is a great website with information on cabin levels, as well as deck levels... There is also a noisy room list, which is not always 100%.. At the top of this forum is a "sticky" with stateroom reports. You could read through a couple to get the general idea...

We are in an 8 in 3 days (!!!), and have been in an 8 twice before, and were booked in an 8 another time but were upgraded from the 8. The rooms are identical to 9's, which is to day they are terrific, we just find deck 7 to be convenient to going topside on 9 for the pool, buffet restaurant, drink station, on to 10 for DS's favorite place, the basketball court, or down two quick flights of stairs to the Lab on 5, or one more to the Walt Disney Theater and then the restaurants on 3 and 4. We never have elevator waits and the stairs are great. Rooms are quiet. There are also 8's on 5 and I guess on 6--DMIL and DFIL stayed in 5004 on our first cruise--very quiet down their hallway.

Others will say they would not pay more for the same room but on a deck designated by DCL to be "better", and find the 9's to be a great value. The rooms are the same as 7's, 6's and 5's, with the exception, of course, of the verandah, but the interior is the same.

We love the 8's too. We've been on both deck 6 and 7. We didn't find much of a difference. Both were convenient and we didn't feel much rocking of the boat. We love the picture window. We had friends who got a category 6 with the balcony, paid $1,000 more than we did and were never in the room. We find the 8's are an excellent value.

We're fans of the 8s too. 2 connecting for our family is sooo wonderfully spacious, and we feel like we have a suite (for less $$).
Veranda is not an issue with us--don't spend enought time in the room...

8's are on higher decks (5,6 & 7). The 9's are on Decks 1 and 2. I prefer the higher decks, but there are many on these boards who have no problem with deck 2.

we actually prefer deck 2, aft location, cat.9....to us, it is an equal, if not, better location than cat 8, deck 7....it is closer to most of the venues we use most...also, some feel lower on the ship is more stable....

It is a personal choice though...both categories are very close in cost....

Category 8 deck 7 forward is our favorite location. Heck, category 10 deck 7 forward is just as nice to us. :) We like the quiet location & it is very convenient.
