Would never know I just came back with all these questions.

Can someone who has stayed in a Cat. 6 with Verandah, can u see the lifeboats beneath you at all, or do u feel the lifeboats vibrating at all?

We had a bad experience in our Category 9 stateroom and was then put in a category 5. So after that we are afraid to stay in any other stateroom except the one we were just in. Even though the air conditioning had only one setting (High) as the thermostat was bypassed by tech and the Verandah lock was broke and didn't lock. Told stateroom host about lock so hopefully he will have it fixed. My kids are 6 and 10 and knew better than to open the slider, but some kids just might take the chance and that can be dangerous. After the real hard time they gave us to get us out of our cat. 9 room, I wasn't going to complain about being cold or a broken lock. They would have thought we were people who just couldn't be pleased. And that was definitely NOT the case.

We rebooked in the Cat.5, but was wondering if you can see the lifeboats from a Cat. 6?

Wondering why the $200 price difference

You can see the edges of them if you stand out at the edge of your verandah and look down over the top of the rail... they are flush with the side of the ship... they don't extend out... they won't block your view of the water.

You can feel them vibrate only when they put them into the water for safety checks at the various ports of call.

pretty sure u can not see them they r tucked under the deck

thinking of switching ??

witch cruise is this ?
MAY ?

May 17th 2003 cruise. Thinking maybe to go to cat. 6 will save $200. DH says stay with the Cat.5, we at least know it will be OK.

Oh... well if that's the question... go with the Category 6. It's exactly like the Category 5 except that it's on Decks 5 and 6 instead of Deck 7. Not enough of a difference to justify the extra $$$ for a Category 5.

Hi Folks:wave:

Ok, we booked a cat 6 on board for the simple reason they are no different and cheaper than a 5. On the cat 6, I did not like the track that runs along side of the ship (for the tram/window cleaner?) This track, although only about 8 inches wide, prevented me from looking straing down to the water (I am sick, but of course you knew that). On the cat 6, you have to lean out way over the railing to see the life boats. You gonna check and see if they are still there? If they are gone, one of a few things have happened...they evacuated the ship and did not tell you...or they are using the lifeboat for something else. I noticed when in Grand Cayman, they loaded some stuff, then lowered two boats and went off to the shore. I think they had afew big briefcases and a strong box on it which was probably being depsoited into a local bank :D , or, it had documents for the Cayman officials to peruse. The boats did have ship officers on board. Of course if you see the baots are still there then there is nothing to be concerned about, you cannot see them sitting on the Verandah sipping some fine Boones Farm anyway. No worries:D

We had a Cat. 6 last year and loved it so much we have the room next to it for this years cruise.
Have a great cruise.

We love the Cat 6..Exactly the same room as Cat 5 and less money.
We have 6080 for 5/17/03. SOMEONE already had 6076 & 6078. Is that you Joe?

My vote is for Cat. 6!! My favorite stateroom, 5650, is a Cat. 6. I suspect that a lot of the price difference is because most people prefer to be higher up on the ship. I've never understood that...personally, I like being as close to the water as possible, and deck 5 is as close as you can get with a verandah. Deck 5 is a great deck...save the $$ and go with a 6.

Fran, Did u switch your cruise date to the 5/17/03 sailing? Cool!

Maybe I will try it and if its not a good room, It shouldn't be a sold out cruise so I will probably be able to upgrade if I have to.. Just had a real bad experience this last cruise (our first) and I feel if we had a higher category we would have been treated better.

Yes, we switched to 5/17 too. With some many 5/11/02 returnees maybe we can get another Boone's Farm party together again. LOL

Hi Folks:wave:
I do not know which thread I am responding to? We should set up some ground rules for all us cruisers from the Western. I cna go for another "meet" however, I am bringing a tent. Instead of BF I will bring colored water...No wait the "meet" will be during the return cruisers party of which we will now be a part? Lets see now return cruisers party by DCL or Deck 7 Aft party by Looney Cruisers (LCs)? Looney cruisers win, party on deck 7 it is with the real stuff!

:bounce: We had a category 6 on our 8/2000 Magic cruise. We loved it so much that we booked the exact same staterooms again for our upcoming Western Cruise 8/3.

We used the lifeboats a a marker for identifying where our rooms were (3rd lifeboat from the aft and up one deck)!!

I highly recommend it!

Category 6 - 5th level - 5622 - the room right next to the lifeboats.

We loved it! Would book it permanently - close to childcare and theater, one floor down from mustering station (Animator's), and just a quick elevator jaunt up to the self-serve coffee/tea bar.

Could see everything and it was nice not to have a neighbor on the other side of us when we were on the verandah reading.
