Hi ,

We are going on our second cruise with Disney and have splurged on a category 4 stateroom. From what info I have gathered, some of these rooms have a solid wall balcony and some have the see through railings with the Plexiglas. Am I right? and how do I go about finding out which ones have which before I request a room?

Thanks for any help,

Martina :wave2:

ALL of the Category 4s have the clear verandah.

For Cat. 5s and 6s, if you look at a deck plan, the ones that are AFT of the Cat. 7 staterooms have the solid verandahs. :)

All Cat4 are on Deck 8 and are all located "mid-ship".

Is there any particular reason you are "splurging" on Cat 4?

In my opinion, there's not much difference between Cat 5/6 and Cat 4 to justify the cost. Sure, your getting a little bit more floor space (to make room for the murphy bed) and the extra storage space on the wall opposite the bed, and you're on the highest deck, but that's it.

For our up-comming cruise, I considered the Cat 4 to have that extra room for a place for DS to play (under age three, so he can't go to the clubs). But when I saw that the extra space was going to cost us something like $75-$100 more per day, it just didn't seem worth it.

If you're going for Cat 4 stricktly for splurg reasons, I'd go for the Cat 3 if possible (significantly larger rooms and concears (sp?) service level). Otherwise, unless there's something specific you want/need in Cat 4, I personally could not justify the cost.

we loved our catagory 4 stateroom. It was in a perfect location and the verandah was a clear glass. The kids loved it. all we had to do is walk one flight of stairs up and we were at the pool. the drink station was right there also. dh and I agreed that it was worth it and rebooked the same for our cruise on the magic. :flower:

on our last cruise we had a cat 4 because there were 5 of us and we wanted to try the verandah but we did not use it much...if you are a family of 4 i would also recommend cat 5/6 that have verandahs but cost alot less...there is not alot of space difference and is one flight of stairs worth that much more??? think of all the souvies and drinks you can buy!!!

alas...we are a family of 6 now and if we all want to be in the same room we have to get a cat 1 or 2, which is a little out of our price range! :flower: Therefore this next cruise we have 1 outside room and 1 inside room....we'll se how that works out

We had a category four on the Magic that was NOT plexiglass verandah. Deck 8 aft. We had two connecting fours (can't remember the cabin numbers. One was half plexi, half metal and the other was solid metal verandah.

More so we splurged on having a stateroom with the verandah after having had an inside stateroom on our last cruise. Because we are doing the August Repo Cruise and only recently bought our trip, our choices were fairly limited. We just wanted on the boat and a verandah to view the Panama Canal from.

So it sounds like not all of the verandahs are Plexi-glass.......

Anyone got any suggestions on who to call? Would DCL give you that information if you called to ask?

marty jay,

i read in one of the books about DCL that staterooms #8092-8094 and 8596-8698 are cat 4's with solid railings.

Also read to avoid cat 4 staterooms #8036-8044 and #8536-8544 due to noise.

(Obviously I have the book right in front of me!!!)

Thanks for the info!! Dizcrazy, out of curiosity which Book are you looking at?

Thanks, Martina

It sounds like she is looking at the Passporter Cruise guide. A very handy book for cruising DCL.
