How can I get it out of a throw rug? I have tried washing it with pine sol..it is small enough to go in the washing machine....

Toss it into the machine with a little Tide. I used to deal with this a lot (no more kitty now).....and I just regularly washed the throw rugs and then let them air dry.

I use tide to wash it...but I don't air dry it so maybe next time I will..thanks

Nature's Miracle works well, although it is expensive. If you don't completely get the smell out, the cat will do it again. If the rug is inexpensive, tossing it might be cheaper than the Nature's Miracle.

frebreeze it... We have a cat that liked to pee on the bed...I soaked up all of the liquid, wash it with some cat pee stuff and then frebreeze the heck out of it..

Try any of those enzyme cleaners, but in my case, I never could get it all the way out.

I think you have to use an enzyme product designed to remove the odor of pet urine. I found one at Target that was able to remove odors that bleach would not even touch.

They have a line of products at Wal-Mart, called OUT! I got the Stain & Odor remover spray, it worked for me, but there were alot of other products in the line maybe one of them could help. We had a stray cat come and have babies under our deck and my cat was so not happy....:sad2:

Wash the rug with normal detergent and add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the load. If you have a front loader, put the vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser. Works for me every time.

Odo Ban works very well. When you first use it the smell gets stronger then goes away.

I think it's too late to use any of the enzyme cleaners -- the Pine Sol may have set it in. I'd just toss it, personally.

For future reference, though, try an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle (truly a miracle on pee!) or Urine b gone. They're expensive, but really work.

yeh I would throw it out too.... Nothing worked for us and we tried everything you can think of. The smell was always there. We had to recarpet twice cause of it and throw away all the stuff that was peed on.

Me too. There is nothing so nauseating as cat pee smell. I just finished cleaning out my mother's back bedroom where I found evidence of cat pee on the bed, in the mail basket, on the floor and on her big braided rug. It was just nasty-wasty! We threw everything out, it was just too much. I felt like I needed to clorox myself when we go done.

I've got 2 cats and 2 dogs, any throw rugs we have can be thrown in our washer. I use about half a cup of vinegar along with my normal detergent and no smell after the dry cycle. :)

Thanks for all the tips... I am washing them right now with the natures miracle
and tide then I am going to spray it with febreeze...we will see..it I have to toss them out them I will but I wanted to try this first....thanks again

My dad gave me a product called XO once - it was fantastic for pet odors (even cat odors). I actually bought a bottle a few months ago online - I dilute it with water and buy it in concentrate. I love it.

OP, if the above suggestions work for you, great!

Just want to throw out there that if ya'll have throw rugs with rubber backing, there can be an odor on some rubber/plastics that mimic the odor of scented cat litter - so SOME cats get confused. :confused3

I have such a cat. :rotfl: Replaced/restricted his access to rubber backed rugs and the problem went away. (He's not allowed within 100 yards of a laundry basket :scared1:...what we do for our pets.) ;)
