Our first cruise was last May on the 4 day Wonder. Loved it can't wait to go again. We just booked May 2006, 7 day. Last time we had the verandah, but for $1200.00 less Dh was really for doing a cat 9. Will I be sorry? I don't like enclosed spaces!!!!!

I am in your same situation, sort of
Last May we were on the 3 day wonder, Cat 9, this June we are splurging for a Cat 5 for the 4 day. However we are cruising with 12 friends next July and are back down to a Cat 9 on deck 2 because of the cost. I am worried I will be spoiled after the cat 5 this year.

To ease your mind, we LOVED our room on deck 2, and actually booked the same cabin again for 06. There was plenty of room for us (DS 7 and 13) in the cabin. With the size of the window, I didn't feel closed in at all.

I LOVED my 2nd deck room! I booked on deck 2 for the next time around. I was barely in it - just to sleep and I don't think we did much of that either!

:p

Hi! I recently sailed on the Magic in a Cat 9 on Deck 2 with DH, DD6 and a baby. I thought I would really want a verandah and contemplated looking into upgrades at the port. In hindsight, it would have been money wasted, definitely not worth $1000+ to me. We spend very little time in our room, except sleeping and getting ready for our next activity. Yes, I would have sat out there with a cup of coffee in the morning, but there were plenty of quiet places on the ship in the a.m. where I could have done this as well. The ship was very quiet before 8 or 9 a.m. DH and I even discussed this post-cruise and both agree that it would have been a waste of money. I would say use the money for something else-- excursions, shopping, a couple of days in WDW before or after your cruise.
JMHO :goodvibes

We have an inside cabin on our January cruise. With all of the kids (4 of them in 2 cabins) we have to do an inside because of $$$. Dh and I did a cruise alone this past march and had a verandah, it was nice but I'd be afraid of my kids jumping overboard, LOL! :bounce:

we went from a veranda cabin to an inside - category 11 - on deck 7 - and didn't mind it at all - I had easy access to the aft deck on 7 for AM coffee, etc., we didn't have a split bath (only three of us) so didn't mind that at all. We weren't the least bit disappointed. And will probably continue to do cheaper cabins in the future. I don't know the price differentials between deck 7 and deck 2 but I did like the easy access to the aft deck as well as up two flights for pools down two flights for kids clubs. Didn't notice any extra motion - but have never been on a lower deck where I'm told the motion is less.

We had a cat 9 the first cruise and loved it. We booked a 12 an where upgraded. On the second cruise we booked a 12 and where upgraded to a an 11 which was inside and that was fine. On the first trip our son was 2 1/2 and loved standing in the porthole and looking out. On the second it worked out great as our oldest was now 4 and the youngest was 18 months and it was dark and quiet for naps in the afternoon. We loved it because we got some rest. Both cabins where on deck 2 which is very convenient, I think. I think for the value you should book the cheapest on guarantee and as the ship sells out you could get upgrade. We have been fortunate each time to pay less and get more. Enjoy!
