Cat 12 GTY for five?

Can you do a Cat 12 GTY for five people? I know that booking one with 4 will guarntee at least a Cat 11, I was wondering if booking 5 would gaurentee at least Cat 4?

No, you can't book anything under a CAT 4 for a party of 5. You won't be able to book a particular cabin or anything with a GTY for a party of 5 unless it's a Cat 4 cabin or above.

I think you may be misunderstanding the GTY and upgrade process. When you book a specific category, you must realize that you may still have that category and be able to live with that. An upgrade is nice, but not necessarily going to happen, no matter how many people you have. And Disney will not let you book a category that your party will not fit in.

You would only be paying for a category 12, and anything you get as far as an upgrade will be great, but it is not a guarantee.

I always say, book what you can afford and what you feel like you could live with, anything else is just pixie dust!

While that is normally true, it is NOT true with Category 12. If you book a Cat. 12 guarantee for 4 people, you will most definitely get an ugrade. There are no 12s that sleep 4 people, so you have to get at least an 11. However, that is the only time that an upgrade is assured.

I just don't see how or why DCL allows that? I would have much rather paid the category 12 price and been guaranteed a Category 11 at least (especially if the price between the 2 was a big difference). Instead, my TA booked us at the cat. 11 because we had 4 people and we thought we HAD to book at that level.

It is a confusing scenario.....and I don't think it is widely known about booking 4 in a Cat 12...I know many TA's don't even know that this is an option...as in your case....

Your TA may have done that because a Cat. 12 guarantee was not available. They only seem to be offered in certain sailings. It is not something you can book at any time.

We're cruising next summer on the 8/27/06, the only four-night summer 2006 cruises that offer Cat 12 are the 8/20 and 8/27. I'm sure that those cruises aren't as desirable because of schools starting early and hurricane season, it's all supply and demand.
