Cat 11 vs Cat 12 Pricing?

Does anyone have any theories as to why the spread is sometime small and sometimes large? The difference in Cat 11 vs Cat 12 is $40 for a family of 4 cruising 4 day 8/20/06. A week later, sailing 8/27/06, the difference is $620.

We've booked the 8/27/06 cruise cat 12, I couldn't see paying the extra for the cat 11 since the only thing I would gain was choosing my cabin location since cat 12's with four people get upgraded to at least a cat 11. The 8/20/06 pricing is quite a bit higher than the 8/27/06 for all the categories, I hadn't noticed the difference between 11 and 12 on the 8/20/06 sailing, I'll check it out. Hopefully our school system will stick with the start date of school after Labor Day as it always has been.

When Disney discounts rooms they normally discount Cat. 12s. For my March 06 cruise, the difference was $2600 from cat. 12 to cat. 11. I think the big difference on 8/27 may be due to the fact that most schools have started by then. They are probably having a harder time filling the 8/27 cruise than the 8/20 cruise.

The cat. 12 discounts can be enormous! (By the way, if you book a cat. 12 for 4 people, you will be given a cat. 11.) Cat. 12 rooms all sleep 2 or three people, but DCL often allows 4 people to book a cat. 12 gty.
