I thought I posted this but couldn't find it.

I took pictures of the castle at MK today. There is a crane sitting to the right side around the back of the castle. The sidewalk that leads to the back of the castle on the right hand side are closed.

The pictures are in an album called Castle with crane.

The construction walls at Ariel and Dumbo, Small World are the walls that are decorated with the characters. The walls around the hub are not decorated. They did add another sign stating the work was all part of the celebration to start in May.

Ugh...it's bad enough the wall is there, but now you have to look at that ugly crane???

I think looking at the crane is a lot better than having them cover up the castle.

Thanks for sharing I can't wait until May.

I have been watching the castle threads as I am going to be in WDW in February with a family that has never been there before. It would much nicer to see the castle, even with a crane, then not at all. Thanks so much for the postings and pictures, it is much appreciated!!

Is Cindy's open? I just wondered how people could enter with all that around the castle.

That faint blood curdling scream you now hear coming from the direction of Worcester, MA is jovidian looking at this post! :teeth:

I am also interested to know how this will change the breakfast with Cindy. Can you still get to the center of the castle to get to Cindy's?

OMG!! It looks like urban renewal~Disney Style! Thanks Safetymom for the photos. :teeth:

You can still walk through the center of the castle. The two walkways that go to the center of the castle are still open. Getting to Cindy's is no problem either.

I didn't think the crane looked that bad. I am glad they didn't cover the castle.

Well, I seriously doubt they will cover the castle while people are there during the day. I understand the need to do work on the castle, but I still think that walking around the MK and having to see construction equipment is a real bummer. I will be there on the 10th through the weekend so at least I know what to expect.

Don't know how else they can do it. They have to work on the castle so someone will always be upset. It really isn't bad. The magic of the castle is still there.

Yea I hear ya. I guess it just looks worse when you see it in the pictures!! The MK is so big and I know that is just one area. I am glad we live her in FL and have passes so we will see the castle when the transformation is done!!

I know they will be doing a lot of work on the castle. Is most of the work taking place at night? Is that just where they "park" the crane during the day? We're also going in a couple of weeks with a group of 21. My mom is hoping to get a picture on Main Street with the castle behind us. Hopefully the crane will still be well-hidden when we go (or when anyone goes.)

Safetymom, do you know if they are planning to cover the castle or are they only doing crane work? Also, how long is the castle refurb (not the hub) supposed to last? Thanks for posting the pics. I least we know what to expect. It's not like my family will be the only people there. Other thousands of people will be seeing the same thing. It's just part of it.

Either way, we can't way to be at Disney World.

So are we able to get anywhere near the castle? My youngest will be disappointed as she really does not remember it from our last trip and is a true princess. How long will this be there?

I have an idea what they could do... they could leave the castle alone!!! Gahhh... why do they always always insist on doing something stupid to that beautiful castle, every time there is a celebration? *has horrified flashbacks of that hideous, hideous "birthday cake castle"*

I wish they would just leave it alone... :worried:

I agree, I don't like anyone messing with "my" castle :) , however, the renderings I have seen of the changes look very magical, and will be worth it, IMO.

I would much rather be there, having to stare at the crane and Cinderella's castle than having to look out my window at all the snow! I'll just keep watching my countdown timer slowly ticking away. :hourglass

This is a little dissapointing! We were there last year, so we have the pix, but I still want all the magic and the castle is part of the magic. I actually have some great pix of the kids on that walkway area, because it was so uncrowded there we had a good shot.

Thanks for the new pictures, safetymom. :) It's nice to be prepared for what we're going to see (or not see LOL).
