For those who have sailed in April, is the water at Castaway typically warm enough to not feel cold when swimming? We have previously only sailed during the summer. I know weather always varies, but if you have been to CC in April can you let me know your experience? Trying to decide if we should stick to summer or try for spring break this time! Thanks!

It should be fine. Disney heats that area of the ocean for the comfort of their valued guests. 😉

Ok, not really but I've been there in April and early May, and it's basically summer by then in the Bahamas. First time there was in December many years ago. It was unusually cool that week, Highs barely reaching 70. Still PLENTY of people in the water, but it was probably cooler than most people like. That would be very unusual though, especially in April.

We‘ve been to CC about 10 times between end of Feb to start of April. Water temp is definitely a crapshoot during that period, sometimes being a bit too cold one day and then nice and warm a few days later.

If it’s windy and there is cloud cover, you could be in for a bit of a shock when you get in the water. If it’s nice and sunny when the ship docks, it usually means that the water temp will be quite tolerable to very enjoyable by the time you get to the beach. Of course, as you get closer to the summer, your odds of having a cold day diminish greatly.

Based on my past experience, I would not hesitate to book an April cruise.

It depends on where you are from. We live in Florida and went on a 7-night cruise that departed Apr. 30 (so CC the first week in May) and we thought the water at CC was quite chilly, but we could eventually get used to it. Went there once on a 4-night in mid-March and it was like trying to swim in ice water, which made it impossible for us to swim. But I see Canadians swim in Clearwater in January, so like I said, it depends on where you're from and what your tolerance for cooler water is.

The corollary is how hot do you like it at the beach? Our Double Dip this year, late April, was plenty warm re: air temp, but not such a big difference from the water temp. Summer temps are just not pleasant to my family.

For us, though, crowds are a bigger issue. We went in the lull between all the Spring Break / Easter crowds and the ramp-up to summer. Early summer, before a lot of schools are out, could still be nice weather and lower crowds.
