We just returned from a wonderful time on the Wonder! Four days is just not long enough...

My son was very curious about Castaway Cay's history. He wanted to know if Disney "built" the island. Well in doing some research, I came upon a very interesting article by a man whose grandfather used to own a portion of the island when it was Gorda Cay. I thought others may find the article interesting also, http://web.outsidemag.com/magazine/0199/9901blackbeard.html

I did not go to Serenity Beach nor see the air strip, but my husband did on his way to the cabanas. If I had read this article prior to my visit - I would have been tempted to explore a bit more...

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting this article again. It has been around for a bit but it's good to see it again since many people are interested in the history of Castaway Cay.

It is quite an interesting article!!!

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

What an incredible and fascinating story! I have always wondered about the island and now it makes it seem so much more alive!

I wish Disney would develop more of it so we could have longer bike trails though. But I certainly wouldn't want Disneyland South to "magically" appear there and take away from the island's natural/manmade beauty!

Thank you for sharing that with us,
Rae
