What is your strategy for footwear for Castaway Cay? Any favorite brands/shoe models to recommend? I'm especially looking for something suitable for going in the water since I've found the ocean floor to be pretty rough in the past (but the time I brought water shoes they must have been cheaply made because the lining started slipping and made for a suboptimal experience). That being said, also interested to hear how people approach being able to walk or bike around comfortably while also doing the beach. Thank you for any recommendations!

I used to rely on my Keen’s sandals. But they are a little heavy/ bulky for packing. Last year, I switched to a water sneaker. Lightweight, but the support I want for walking around.

I got mine on Amazon, eventually in 2 colors for a cruise with a lot of port and beach days. They are offered in various product names, but they had the same soles. There are holds the sole to allow water to move through. But sand will collect (but rinses out easily).

I think I found them at a lower price.

Keen’s were more like this. They are definitely more expensive. But they last. I wear them at WDW for all-day use.

Both the water sneakers and the Keen’s can go in washer and dryer.

…I don’t like to walk in shoes that flip flop/ require toes to grip so the shoes won’t come off.

I was going to say Keens before I read your answer! I love mine BUT they are kind of funny looking. I wore mine in Australia and my friends literally LAUGHED at them. But I didn’t care . . .

My go to footwear for the beach are the Birkenstock EVA sandals. I like the Gizeh, but there are multiple styles to choose from. I have been wearing them for years.

I love Teva tirras. They are lightweight and dry very quickly. They are fully adjustable so they are comfy right away.

I have Adidas water shoes that I've had for probably seven years. I think I actually bought them on board the Fantasy. They have held up well - though we only wear them on vacation, so only a few times a year at most. I hate the feeling of sand on my feet, and I hate especially getting sand in my sandals or any kind of open shoes, so I find that my water shoes have been the best option thus far.

We use water shoes for the sand/water portion of our CC stay - then when we are done with that - we clean off our feet with water and towels and then change into either sneakers or sandals to walk around the rest of the island when not on the beach areas.

As other have said, Keens. They are great in the water and for general walking/hiking. They have really good grip and dry quickly. The toe protection is great too.. The only problem is that pebbles and sand get caught in them more easily. Sometimes I have to take them off to get it out. I wear them every day in the summer. They are my theme park and vacation go to shoes too. Our son lives in his.

I knew y'all would have some great suggestions! I honestly had no idea 'water sneakers' were a thing. Probably going to get a pair of those as well as a more open-type (Teva or Keen) and see what I end up liking best. I actually already have a pair of Birkenstock EVA sandals (probably a suggestion from this board at some point haha) which I love but I feel like for CC want something with a bit more support. Thank you for the help!

Water sneakers. Specifically Olukai Moku Pae. They’re great as both sneakers and water shoes which helps minimize the packing.

I wear my Teva's pretty much exclusively from April into October, except for work and Palo. But for Castaway, I switch over to a cheaper pair of Costco sandals that are Teva-like, but clearly not the same quality. That's because I don't want soggy, sandy sandals at supper that night. (No matter how much I rinse 'em, there's going to be sand left in them...)
