Castaway 5K reservations?

Hi everyone! Back in 2019 we booked a cruise for 2020. I did soo much research and felt soo prepared only to have it cancelled long after PIF. We rebooked for 2021 and it too was canceled so now here we are in 2022 and I have to say I am not at all as prepared as I was years ago. I'm just not in the groove like I was before but trying to get there. It didn't help that when our reservation booking window opened the system was down for maintenance. Anyway, all of that to say this totally now unprepared traveler (I'm working on my mojo I promise) is asking for assistance in regards to the Castaway 5K sign up. I thought years ago it was under onboard fun but today I can't find it under onboard fun or port adventures. I have seen videos where they are still having it, just guests can do it on their own pace but I didn't realize that may also mean you don't register? Any insight would be greatly appreciated and I promise I am now back to doing my homework!! Thanks soo much!

Correct. They aren't having an official start or handing out numbers. You just go and do it. The lady I spoke to on our cruise said she had to go to Guest Services to pick up her medal.

In December when we were there you could pick up your medal at the little gift store right by the finish. But we also heard of people getting them from guest services. My wife who has done the run many times said there was no way to check who did the run (now days) so it was honor system asking for the medal from the store or guest services. Old days they made you sign up and handed medals to people when they finished (CM running the event). Enjoy ur run

I did the 5K in October and got my medal at Guest Services on the ship. When I was running, it was only myself and perhaps four other people.

My daughter and I are planning on doing a Castaway 10K next week as part of our training leading up to the Tower of Terror Ten Miler.

A friend just did it last week when we were on the FANTASY and she got her medal at the Bike rental when she finished, or right near there. She had it when she met us by the frozen drink stand.

Old days they made you sign up and handed medals to people when they finished (CM running the event)

You could get them from guests services in the past also. We walked it (slowly) with my elderly mom several years ago. By the time we finished the CMs were done, but we still got our medals. She was very proud of hers.

We did it 2/24 and were told to go to Guest Services to get our medal. DH was going back to the ship for something so I asked him to get them then so I could take a picture out on the island with it. They were unable to find them that early so they told DH they would deliver them to the room for us. Right as we had pulled away from CC that evening a CM knocked on our door with them.

And no, we did not need to register.

Thank-you everyone for the responses! It was a bit of a crazy morning when the system came back up...I couldn't find the Nassau excursion we wanted...I couldn't find the 5K and I was beginning to lose it a little. I appreciate all of the help!

Oh, that's much better than when I got it once I got back on the ship. It was rather anti-climatic getting it 5 hours after I ran.
