Cass, Rob & Kira - 20 Hours at Aulani and other Oahu Adventures July 2024

I'm so glad you got to Waimea valley!! It's stunning. We went there last year, it was our first time as well (considering this was like my 6th trip to Oahu I can't believe I hadn't done it before). I'm guessing Rob did not get in the water but let's find out, shall we..... :magnify:

JPG282.jpg
Just WOW. This is a gorgeous picture!!!

I’m hoping there is water at the falls. We went and it was dry , didn’t have rain in weeks. We still went in to see the flowers and trees.

We had a 6 hour time change so that really was hard to get used to for sleep and meals.

I too have a too have a ton of pictures of sunsets , flowers and trees.

This is the Wonder going out toward Australia for the first time. We got off the ship that morning ,from Royal Hawaiian Hotel beach.

Oh Cass, never worry about us rolling our eyes at anything you post, like ever. If you love it, chances are very good, we all will. And I did!! This valley is stunning, just as you described and the pictures probably don't do it justice. You would love New Zealand Cass! I wish you and Rob could get there. You would just love the scenery there. Anyway, it's funny you're not beach people. I grew up on Cape Cod in my summers, I lived on the beach. So me, my dream is to see the North Shore one day, but for its massive waves. I could sit and gaze the entire day long at them. Seriously, my dream. But! I loved these pictures today, so very pretty!! can't wait for more...

Wow! Thanks for posting all the pics of the beautiful scenery.
We went to Hawaii and cruised the islands many many (we're old!) moons ago. It is way too long of a travel day and flights from South Florida for us nowadays. But, I am enjoying living it again thru you guys. Can't wait to read more.

Part 2

Just after the bathrooms, you go over a bridge over the stream. From there, you get your first glimpse of the waterfall.

JPG318.jpg

JPG319.jpg

Some more gorgeous flowers...

JPG320.jpg

Just around the bend and we are there! :cool1:

JPG321.jpg

JPG322.jpg

JPG323.jpg

JPG324.jpg

There is a seating area across from it for those who don't want to swim.

JPG325.jpg

You must wear a life jacket in order to get into the water, it's free but they appreciate tips. :thumbsup2

JPG326.jpg

I let Rob and Kira go first while I stayed with all of our stuff and took pics and video. Even though I was really hot by now, I figured Rob might not even go in the water or if he does go in, he won't last long so might as well let him go and then he can dry off a little while I go in.

This was Kira's face when she felt how cold the water was. 🥶:rotfl2:

JPG327.jpg

This was her telling me that it was very cold and that dad might not be able to do this.

JPG328.jpg

And then Rob got in and stood here for about 5 minutes, deciding if he could actually go further. :p

He eventually told me that he decided to just bite the bullet and go in because it's not every day he gets to swim in a waterfall with his daughter. :upsidedow

JPG329.jpg

He did have a hard time getting in because he went really slowly. I told him he should have just dunked himself to get it over with in a few seconds.

The look on Kira's face as he was getting to that tough mid-section is priceless! :rotfl:

JPG330.jpg

He eventually got in and they swam really quickly over to the waterfall. :rotfl2:

JPG331.jpg

JPG332.jpg

There is a makeshift line to get close to the waterfall to take pics. They posed for a few pics and then swam back.

JPG333.jpg

JPG334.jpg

Kira was now used to the water and was totally okay sitting there waiting for Rob to climb up and for me to join her.

JPG336.jpg

JPG335.jpg

I just used Rob's life jacket, which was cold and wet but felt lovely. Then I climbed down.

JPG337.jpg

Unlike Rob, I was ITCHING to get into that nice cold water and I dove right in and it was LOVELY! :cloud9: My kind of temperature! :woohoo:

JPG338.jpg

We swam over and got in the line for pics.

JPG339.jpg

Kira had picked up a stick somewhere along the way and was using it as a wand. pixiedust:

JPG340.jpg

Unlike Rob, I stayed in the water for quite some time. Kira and I were having a blast casting spells on each other, knighting each other and just enjoying the lovely water and views and having fun together.

Honestly, I could have stayed there all day. ::yes::

If I ever do this again, I would bring a little lunch and just stay here for a few hours. I could swim and Rob could sit on the bench and read his book. It was busy where the waterfall was but on the sides, it was practically empty! :lovestruc

JPG340a.jpg

JPG340b.jpg

JPG340c.jpg

In some spots there were rocks so you really had to be careful getting in and out. We were having fun with them. :lmao:

JPG340d.jpg

I wanted to stay longer but I knew we had stuff to do and we had to get going.

I hope to see you again someday, waterfall! :wave2:

JPG340e.jpg

Rob wanted to change out of his swimsuit and there were change rooms but they were all busy so he just went to the bathroom to change.

On the way back, I took more pics of the trees but I also took pics of the flowers, so I will share a few of those.

I wondered where this went and why it was closed. :scratchin

JPG344.jpg

Ahhhhrrrrrggggghhhhhhaaaaahhhh!! :love::worship:

Once again, I am at the 35 image limit so I must stop here. Stay tuned for the next chapter!

Where are we going, you may ask?

Well, here is the next photo that I took once we left the valley. It provides you with a huge hint.

;) :rolleyes1

Oh these pics really tell the story, LOL!

Waimea Falls is such a lovely place, we were pleasantly surprised that it is paved all way. My husband isn't really into hiking anymore due to a workplace injury but this was a nice compromise for us.

...and I think I know where you are going next!

Stunning sunset photos. Hands down one of the best things about Hawaii on any of the islands are the sunsets

Wow, so many pools and hot tubs!! Dang it Aulani, step up your game :rotfl2:Though the property itself is smaller than the Marriot so, sigh.

Yes, I agree about the sunsets, they really are stunning!

Yes, that's the whole thing about Aulani, it's very compact so I feel like everyone is in that one area. They should expand to that empty space next door. :rolleyes1

Kauai is where it's at!

Been many times to the https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/lihka-marriotts-kauai-beach-club/overview/. Biggest pool in the state, which can get busy, but the bay is fantastically quiet and peaceful.

Man, I miss Hawaii

Looks beautiful! :lovestruc

Apple jelly, anyone? :rotfl2:

That story had me cracking up. You are too funny! :rotfl:

Hahahahaha sometimes it just pops into my head and I start chuckling. :lmao:

Did you guys get to swim in the waterfall? Man, writing this chapter made me REALLY want to go back! If I ever do, it will be my top priority! I am still shocked that he did it! ::yes::

Just WOW. This is a gorgeous picture!!!
So much beauty in Hawaii, I just point and shoot. :flower:

Oh no, that is so sad! When did you visit?

We struggled with 4, so I can't imagine 6! :faint:

Wow, that is a gorgeous photo!! Nice timing!! That is my favourite ship!

Oh Cass, never worry about us rolling our eyes at anything you post, like ever. If you love it, chances are very good, we all will. And I did!! We would LOVE to go to New Zealand. Not sure if I will ever get there but every time I see it in movies, I am in awe!

I would 100% go sit on the Bonzai pipeline in the Winter and watch those gorgeous waves! I had intended on visiting three other beaches that day but she wasn't interested. I love the scenery and would love to visit many of them, I am just not a sit on the beach all day and do nothing kind of girl. :p Kira has sensory issues with sand so I ended up just doing the stuff on the very top of my list.

Oh wow, yes, I feel for you! That is such a long journey from Florida! I am starting to have some issues just going to Florida, if we do a direct flight, it's about five and a half hours and if we connect in Toronto or Montreal, it makes for such a long day!

Oh these pics really tell the story, LOL!

Waimea Falls is such a lovely place, we were pleasantly surprised that it is paved all way. My husband isn't really into hiking anymore due to a workplace injury but this was a nice compromise for us.

I was quite shocked that it is was paved the whole way and so accessible to everyone! Good luck getting down in past those rocks though! :rolleyes2:laughing:

I am quite sure you know where the next chapter is leading us to.

Part 3

I had wanted to visit several beaches (Waimea, Ō’owopāla, Sunset Beach) and stop in at Ted's Bakery but Kira wasn't keen on that so instead, we headed south.

It was probably a good thing as the traffic going North was insane! :scared1:

She asked what our next stop was and I said Laniakea Beach. She wasn't thrilled so I told her that if we drive by and I see turtles out, then we are 100% stopping. ::yes::

I said "We are going to see TURTLES!!!" and she replied "I've seen turtles before."

:rolleyes2:rolleyes2:rolleyes2

I said "You haven't seen turtles on the beach in Hawaii before!" and told her she could wait in the car if she wanted to but I was going to see the turtles!

Well, as we drove past, I could see TONS of turtles so I told Rob to find a place to park. There is a nice big lot across the street but you can only enter and exit going northbound. We ended up turning into a residential area with gorgeous, expensive homes. The gate with the turtles on it in my last chapter is from one of those homes and where we ended up turning around. The traffic was crazy but we managed to cross over and head north and park in the lot.

She decided to come after all. :rolleyes1

JPG351.jpg

JPG352.jpg

You can tell by the crowds where the turtles were. There were tons of them. While I don't love crowds, Kira has a really hard time with them so I stopped short of the crowds and we watched the turtles from there. There were dozens of them!🐢

JPG353.jpg

JPG354.jpg

JPG355.jpg

JPG356.jpg

JPG357.jpg

JPG358.jpg

JPG359.jpg

JPG360.jpg

SO many of them! They would swim in the water and then come up on the reef, it was so amazing to watch them. We've seen turtles before, Rob and I saw them on the Big Island, on the black sand beach and all three of us have been to the Turtle Centre in Grand Cayman and held them but seeing them here on the beach was just an amazing experience that even Kira ended up enjoying. 😊::yes::

JPG361.jpg

JPG362.jpg

We spent just enough time there to make me happy and not too long to make Kira antsy to leave. :thumbsup2

Here's some pics that Rob took.

JPG363.jpg

JPG365.jpg

JPG366.jpg

I asked them to hang back a second while I took a photo. I was hoping to get no people in it but this beach was just too busy.

JPG367.jpg

I came close though. :rotfl:

JPG368.jpg

Our next stop was the town of Hale'iwa. I had wanted to explore this little town and visit some of the most popular areas.

JPG369.jpg

JPG370.jpg

Our first stop was Matsumoto Shave Ice. Shave Ice is a very Hawaiian thing to do here and there are TONS of options. I have read that there were places that were better than Matsumoto's but this is THE place to get it, especially if you're on the North Shore. Kira had never had shave ice before so I figured she might as well get her first taste of it at the world famous Matsumoto's!

JPG371.jpg

She went and sat down in the shade while Rob and I stood in the very long line.

JPG372.jpg

It is located in a large courtyard with big trees that offer tons of shade thankfully. It was very hot out! 🥵

JPG373.jpg

JPG374.jpg

You can spot Kira in this pic. :p

JPG375.jpg

JPG376.jpg

JPG377.jpg

They are very efficient here, I guess they have to be with so many people visiting. It was very cool to watch them make it.

JPG378.jpg

Rob got one for himself and Kira and I shared one. I'm not a huge fan of these to be honest, so I pretty much let Kira pick the flavours.

JPG379.jpg

Rob enjoyed his and finished it all. Kira and I couldn't even finish ours. It turned into soup quite quickly and we didn't love one of the flavours. Honestly, I have had better shave ice elsewhere but I am still glad we came here to try it. :thumbsup2

JPG380.jpg

We walked around a bit and spotted a very interesting Cybertruck. We had never seen one in person before and we all thought it looked ugly. :crazy2::rotfl:

JPG381.jpg

We ended up getting back into the Jeep and we drove over to another famous stop, Giovanni's Shrimp Truck.

JPG382.jpg

The line was super long!! :worried: Kira and Rob waited in the line while I scoped out the other trucks. We were all starving by now, but I don't like shrimp so I needed something else.

JPG383.jpg

The other two trucks on the right had crepes and more shrimp, this was the only one that had anything I could eat.

JPG384.jpg

I ended up getting the chicken tacos and they were just okay. I didn't eat the rice, beans or salad. I was going to eat the salad if they had dressing for it, which they did, but it was a communal bottle just sitting on the ledge, in the scorching sun. No thanks. :scared:

This was $20.

JPG385.jpg

I found a table around the corner from all of the chaos thankfully and ate my tacos all the while, Rob and Kira were still in line.

About 15 minutes after I was done, they joined me with their shrimp. 🍤

Stay tuned for that. :smooth:

That beach access right near that house leads to one of our favorite quiet beaches. Just as many turtles, no crowds

I am finally caught up. I have been reading a little bit each day since we got home. I am loving it all.
I have to laugh about the airplane window issue. We have the same issue. Claire always wants the window, and I love it too, but I also like it for more leaning away room. She will sit there and shut the shade or not look out and I am like ah no! Window rules are you must look out whenever there is something to see!
All your pics are stunning and I love all the different places you have visited.

How's the packing going? LOL

Allllll the turtles 😍😍 how wonderful! You got some excellent photos there. And yes we did swim in the falls while at Waimea 😍 but we all went in the water at once so we have no photos of us swimming 😩😆 we have photos of the water etc but no proof we actually swam 😂😂 but we did... trust me ;)

Wow, Waimea looks gorgeous! I was fortunate enough to have visited Sacred Falls just over 30 years ago. It was a hard hike, but it was oh so beautiful. Of course, it's closed now after a tragedy in 1999, but it was one of my favorite things next to snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. If I ever get back there, I'm going to need to visit Waimea! Thanks for sharing your adventures.

He eventually told me that he decided to just bite the bullet and go in because it's not every day he gets to swim in a waterfall with his daughter. :upsidedow
That's the sweetest thing ever! Especially considering how much he hates the cold water!!

What an awesome Daddy-Daughter picture (and memory!) Though, I also thoroughly enjoyed the wand/stick in your Mommy-Daughter ones, too!

We walked around a bit and spotted a very interesting Cybertruck. We had never seen one in person before and we all thought it looked ugly. :crazy2::rotfl:
They're HIDEOUS and all over Chicago!!!! My favorite part though is watching people try to parallel park them! :rotfl2:

We were in Hawaii this past October.

Love the turtles , saw them at the black beach too and had one swimming with us in Maui . We were like look a turtle ….the guy beside us said see them all the time…

Shaved ice is a snow ball with flavours poured over it. I did like the Gauva one we had at in Maui.

We wanted to go to Ted’s too but didn’t make it. Suppose to have great pies. We didn’t make it to the shrimp truck but did make it to The Bald guy one that we saw on the Food Truck Race .

Part 4

Still in line ten minutes after I finished my tacos.

JPG386.jpg

Rob only ordered one plate of shrimp because Kira didn't think she would enjoy them as she is not a big fan of garlic. He said he enjoyed them but they didn't blow him away and he wouldn't wait in that long line again for them. I think Kira had a few shrimp and then went and got a crepe. Crepes are her new discovery and like most other people with ADHD (me included, it seems) she latches on to a food she likes and then eats it over and over until she is sick of it. ::yes:::laughing:

JPG387.jpg

JPG388.jpg

Since she only ate a few shrimp and she had already had dessert, she asked if we could stop at McDonald's for some fries. :rolleyes2

The outside of this McDonald's looks old-timey. :upsidedow

JPG389.jpg

Hard to find a parking spot here with all of the wildlife. :p🐓

JPG390.jpg

We parked at the end and went inside. I was still hungry so I decided I wanted some fries too and Rob and I wanted to share a Diet Coke.

JPG391.jpg

I love checking out the weird things offer at different locations. Oh dang! The McTeri is out of stock!:p:laughing:

JPG392.jpg

Kira was asking about the iced tea here. She likes the kind that has sugar but not the unsweetened versions that are found in the USA.

JPG393.jpg

I have no idea why they told you to grab a table tent as there were numbers on each table and no table tents anywhere! :rotfl:

JPG394.jpg

As we were ordering, Kira slyly asked if she could also have a Big Mac. :rotfl2:

Happy girl! :rolleyes2:laughing:

JPG395.jpg

We loved these straws! I wish we could get these everywhere because the paper ones we get at home SUCK!!! :rolleyes2

JPG396.jpg

We got back into the Jeep and headed back. We had one more quick stop before we headed back to our hotel.

The Dole Plantation! We basically just stopped here for Dole Whips and we ended up spending $150! :rolleyes2

JPG397.jpg

JPG398.jpg

JPG399.jpg

Kira ended up with more stuffies. :sad2: I stopped buying them for her years ago, I think they are such a waste of money, especially at 17 years old but she is just a huge sucker for anything cute and fuzzy and she had her own money this trip.

Rob ended up getting himself a hoodie because he only has about two dozen of them at home. :p

JPG400.jpg

JPG401.jpg

The shop is quite huge! Once they bought their goodies, they went and grabbed some Dole Whips.

JPG402.jpg

JPG403.jpg

I still can't believe that they were more expensive HERE than at Aulani! :worried:

JPG404.jpg

JPG405.jpg

Once back at the resort, we chilled for bit in our room and then headed down to the beach for sunset. Just outside our tower, we ran into this kitty and saw him dozens of times for the rest of our stay. Kira is also a sucker for all animals and she loved spotting him every day. He had the zoomies quite often and was very entertaining. :teeth:

JPG406.jpg

Here is the mobile order take out window on the side of Longboard's. After 7pm you had to fill up at the bar. I thought that was kind of dumb.

JPG407.jpg

A close-up of the drinks.

JPG408.jpg

Kira was in her new jammie pants and refused to get dressed.

JPG409.jpg

JPG410.jpg

JPG411.jpg

I suggested that we watch the sunset from that far left area in the background.

JPG412.jpg

JPG413.jpg

JPG414.jpg

A look back at our beautiful resort.

JPG415.jpg

Once you go past all of the bushes, there is a nice reef/volcanic rock area and Kira ended up falling in love with this place. There was no one else around and she loved watched the waves roll in. :cloud9:

JPG416.jpg

Looking over at the Four Seasons.

JPG417.jpg

Same resort view without the trees blocking it.

JPG418.jpg

JPG419.jpg

Her new happy place.

JPG420.jpg

At my limit for photos so I will have to continue in the next chapter. I don't have that many more for the day but sadly, I can only post 35 photos. :sad1:

Loved the Dole Plantation.

IMG_2073.jpegWe bought t shirts and a Dole Whip too. Did you like it? It was my favourite but people found it tart.

Did you see the rainbow tree near the parking lot? Picture doesn’t do it justice.

35 photos is never enough!! I love every detail. It has been so beautiful, I already don't want it to end. Those dole whips, how do they rate compared to the ones at the Polynesian and did they have that vanilla pineapple option? I always find the just pineapple flavor so strong. Keep going!

The Dole Plantation is definitely a money suck...just ask me how we ended up bringing pineapple soap and flip flop earrings home last trip 😂😂😂 nothing beats a whip straight from the source, of course 😉 😍

It cracks me up how much Rob likes to shop!

That shrimp looked good. I'm kind of hungry for seafood now!

The sunset pics are just gorgeous!
