Cass, Rob and Kira back in Disney - Food Reviews!! Completed 03/13/2010!

Not even those shrimpies tasted good?? :cutie:

I won't even comment on the prime rib, you've heard my feelings on that already. :rotfl2:

Sorry, I don't do shrimpies but even Rob said the food was bad and he is pretty easy to please!

I looked at your pics of the whole book when you added them in your TR, (love the book BTW,) his is the only page, as far as I can tell, that has a blank page next to it, so maybe that's why he thought that? That's the only reason I can think of. I'd hope Mickey wouldn't be so ignorant otherwise.

I'd add a pic to that page though, it'd probably make it look more balanced instead of having a big empty space there.

I will have to post a pic but Kira visited Mickey the next week while we were on the Disney Magic and got a new autograph on the other page so it doesn't look so bad now ;)

No, I completely agree - less than a minute is RIDICULOUS!! A few photos is completely reasonable. I'm just curious to know if anyone has ever heard of any sort of policy. Because we did see people asking for TONS of photos and I just thought that was a little extreme. And then I'm sure the characters do feel rushed when that happens - other families are done eating and they haven't gotten to them and I"m sure that's stressful. No reason to shortchange another family and who knows if that's what even happened here, I just know I've seen it. If everyone would just be a bit more reasonable (not referring to you, you seem very reasonable about it!) then it would probably go more smoothly for everyone! Same for the families who think it's OK to go TO the characters, thus interrupting the "flow" or even another family's time!

It's amazing how one family can ruin it for others. Thankfully we have been pretty lucky and have had good experiences, except that one

I understand what you mean. We were eating at 1900 Park Fare and there was a party of about 10 people. They totally didn't understand the flow at all and would pull the characters out of sequence. They would take 100 pictures with different groupings and I totally understand that part. But they spent a lot of time trying to get what they wanted. I really wanted to tell them off. But I do think the handlers should be reminding diners what the policy is. I don't even know if there is a policy. At this particular breakfast we sat there for 2 1/2 hours to see all the characters. I'm not sure if they were short handed but made me upset. Anyways... we'll never eat there again because they don't seem to have good control of their guests (we also ate dinner there once as well and had the same issue). It seems like at Crystal Palace they are really good about explaining how the characters roam the room. The waiter always tells us which door they are coming from and how they rotate and about the parade. The last time we ate there the waiter even told us not to get up right away because the characters were coming around in a few minutes. They always tell us the characters may leave but they always come back to the same table. Anyways... I'm not sure what the policy is. I think, everyone is entitled to a picture and autograph and that characters should not assume that older kids or adults are not interested in the interaction. As for a large group taking up time, I don't think that is an issue because whether you had 2 tables of 5 people or 3 tables with 4, 4 & 2 people or a table with 10 people it is the same number of people. I just think in our 1900 Park Fare example was an exception with a family that didn't understand how it worked. But their staff did not explain it either.

Wow! I think maybe the CM's need to be more clear about the way it works. I've been to many character meals and only 3 or 4 of our servers/hosts really explained how it works.

Yay... a food report! Loving it so far....

Thanks :goodvibes

I am so sorry you had a lousy meal at CM but I will admit we had a terrible meal there too! The characters were great but the food was soooooo bad that we all left hungry!

Now breakfast is excellent......we loved our CM breakfast so much I would go back again and again

Maybe when we go next time, we will try the breakfast. I had an ADR for CM breakfast but after our bad experience at dinner and our wonderful Kona breakfast, I cancelled it and went to Kona again :thumbsup2

I'm glad you liked Akershus. I love breakfast there, especially the potatoes.

Aren't they divine???

Would it look funny if Chuck and I went to a Princess Breakfast without a little princess of our own? :goodvibes

I loved all this pictures in this update especially the second one with Aurora. :cloud9: The one with Ariel is precious too.

Rob and I ate at all the character meals before we had Kira! ;)

So incredible! I hope we have a little girl someday so we can do that princess meal. Such GREAT pics!

As it is we are heading to Chef Mickey's for dinner which I am not super pleased about but all my DS wants to do is eat with Mickey! I agree with you on the food and character interaction there. Last time we went we didn't even see all the characters and we were there for well over an hour. Which as you know is a VERY long time with a toddler! We'll see how it works out this year. fingers crossed!

Hopefully your dinner there is awesome! I'm sure your son will have a blast! :woohoo:

Great breakfast! We had a blast the last time we went to Akershus for the Princess breakfast. It makes you wonder what the whole CRT fuss is about ;)

Casey's Corner at Magic Kingdom - October 22nd, 2009

Hot dogs and fries at Casey's is a staple of every trip we make. I drool over those delicious dogs as soon as I start thinking of going to WDW. I prefer the skinny fries they used to serve but the new fries are decent too.

This was our first trip to Casey's since they changed the hot dog buns from white to whole wheat and let me tell you we were devastated!!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

wdw63.jpg

I barely got the hot dog out of the foil wrapping and it was completely falling apart!!!

wdw64.jpg

By the time I got my condiments on it, it was ripping apart and completely unedible!! :sad2:

wdw65.jpg

I tried to mush it back together but I just couldn't eat it. It was disgusting!!! I am still in complete shock that they've turned my favourite hot dog in Disney into the absolutely worst meal ever!!! :scared1:

I munched on fries and the corn dog nuggets but I was just so mad and upset that I only had a few bites!

I took this pic as Rob was trying to eat his hot dog and I think it sums it up completely...

8-48.jpg

I know I have complained about this before but what the H-E-L-L were they thinking when they did this????????????? :confused3

I'm sorry but if I am trying to eat healthy while at Disney, I am NOT going to order hot dogs!!! Over the last 5 years, Disney has added a lot of different healthier options to many different places all over the World so if I am watching my weight or trying to eat healthier, I would find a place that offers salads, wraps and veggie options!

I can only hope that the higher ups either read all the horrible reviews their new WW buns are getting on the DIS or they get enough complaint letters and change this quick!! Disney has made a lot of silly decisions when it comes to changes in their parks but this one tops the cake boy!

We got:

Corndog nuggets $4.19
Hot Dog with fries $6.59
Hot Dog with apple slices $ 6.59
Total with Tax: $18.50

Until they go back to the white buns, I will not be back to Casey's, which is saying a lot since we normally eat here 3-4 times per trip!

All I can do is :sad:

I'm surprised you even gave them one :thumbsup2, Cass. What was it for...the condiments? pirate:

I think Casey's is definatly off my list. Which is a shame, since it's the only place I eat hot dogs on property. Maybe I'll go there for fries, if the cheese sauce is still complimentary when I go, but otherwise, no thank you.

And I totally agree with you about the healthy eating thing. I watch what I eat when I'm home, Disney is an escape for me from counting calories. If I did want to eat healthy, I'd find something healthier to eat then a hot dog, since those buns do not make it a healthy meal!

The Princess Breakfast in Norway is the best for character interaction...we took our 2 nieces twice and each time the food was to die for and the Princesses were amazing with the kids.

The pics of Kira with them are so beautiful...that little girl has the most gorgeous eyes!

Caseys, ICK! The buns are just BLECH! The burgers are the same thing, nasty bun!

Great breakfast! We had a blast the last time we went to Akershus for the Princess breakfast. It makes you wonder what the whole CRT fuss is about ;)

Exactly ;) I guess one day when she asks about it, we will eat in the castle, until then, Akershus will do just fine :goodvibes

I'm surprised you even gave them one :thumbsup2, Cass. What was it for...the condiments? pirate:

Hmmm, I think it was a combination of condiments and the lovely view of the castle :rolleyes1

Yeah, adding a whole wheat bun to a wiener does not a healthy meal make :lmao: :rotfl2:

All the reviews I had read said the Storybook Breakfast was just OK so I wasn't really expecting much other than the fact that Kira would be thrilled about seeing some princesses so we were all blown away with this place! :thumbsup2

And I totally agree, those are nasty, nasty buns! :crazy2:

Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck at Downtown Disney - October 23rd, 2009

Well this will be my last WDW food review for awhile since the next day in my report is the day we boarded the Disney Cruise. I will continue the reviews with all the cruise food and then report on the last 2 days at WDW after I finish the cruise portion of my reviews :thumbsup2

Before we left for our drive to the Residence Inn at the Port, we stopped at Downtown Disney because I really wanted a sammie from Earl ;)

Rob watched Kira while I got our food. Kira was in a mood today and he was totally stressed by the time I got back to the table. Poor Rob.

wdw66.jpg

The last time we were at Earl's, they didn't have the pagers that light up when your food is ready so I thought that was a nice touch. :woohoo:

We were able to snack on our chips and fruit while we waited for our sammies.

wdw67.jpg

I got Kira a grilled cheese sandwich.

wdw68.jpg

She didn't eat much of it but I don't think it was because she didn't like it, I think she just woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning and was being fussy. I took a bite and it was pretty good.

I ordered the Original (Roast Beef) but asked for regular mustard instead of the horseradish sauce. My sandwich was delish! I enjoyed it much better with the mustard than the horsey sauce!

wdw69.jpg

I got Rob the BLT and he seemed to really like it.

wdw70.jpg

Kira was really challenging so we only ate half our sandwiches, packed up the rest and got out of their before they threw us out :rolleyes1

We also wanted some Wolfgang Puck Pizza so we walked over there and got a pepperoni pizza to go. I love the renovations they did to this place, what an improvement! I wish we could have sat inside and eaten our pizza while it was still hot but we wanted to get going before Kira completely lost it.

The one-hour drive over to the port was the longest hour of my life  This was definitely the worst part of the entire trip. She had one huge meltdown the whole way there and nothing we did or said helped in the least bit!

After we settled in, we met up with some great friends of ours at the pool. After the visit, we went back to the room and ate our leftovers.

wdw71.jpg

Even though the pizza was cold, it was still very good! I enjoyed the last half of my sandwich even more than the first half and I devoured that amazing brownie!!! I wish I had bought two of them! :goodvibes

I don't have the receipt for the pizza but here's what we got at Earl of Sandwich:

The Original $5.95
BLT $ 5.95
Kids Grilled Cheese $ 3.95
Chips $1.25
Bottled Water $ 2.50
Brownie $1.95
Fruit $1.95

Total with Tax: $24.87

Wolfgang Puck Pizza 4 :thumbsup2's (would have been 5 if it was hot, but that was our doing, not theirs!)

We will definitely be back again to both Earl and Wolfgang Puck Express! :cool1:

Free Breakfast Buffet at the Residence Inn at Port Canaveral - October 24th, 2009

Breakfast was included in our room cost of $125 (for a gorgeous 2-room suite with full kitchen!) so I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised!

They had tons of stuff, fruit, toast, bagels, cereals, muffins, danish, yogurts, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, potatoes, pancakes, coffee, juice, milk. The only thing I thought was missing was some meat like bacon or ham.

Everything was absolutely delicious! I was so impressed and we all left with full tummies!

I loved everything about this hotel and we will definitely be staying here again next time we cruise out of Port Canaveral! :thumbsup2

Embarkation Buffet & Pluto's

As soon as we got on the ship, Bernie and I went to Rockin' Bar D to change our Palo ressies while the rest of our group went up to the buffet at Topsiders to have lunch.

By the time we met them up there, they were in the middle of their meal. Rob didn't take any pics so I don't have any close-ups. :guilty:

They all seemed to really enjoy their lunch though. :thumbsup2

Here's a pic of Kira enjoying her freedom on the bench and staying away from scary Gary :lmao: By the end of the week, these two were best friends ;)

10-14.jpg

The line for the buffet now was ridiculously long so B and I went to Topsiders and brought this back...

10-13.jpg

The chicken tenders were delicious as usual but the hot dog was terrible because of that icky bun!

Rob got some dessert while I was eating...

dcl1.jpg

I only tried that white stuff in the bowl. No idea what it was but it was REALLY good! Tasted like creamy cheesecake.

Animator's Palate

First, I would like to thank all of my table mates who were very kind and patient with my while I took photos of everything :goodvibes You know who you are!

I can only comment about the food I ate, obviously and if my table mates care to join in here and offer up their opinions, then they can tell you about those other dishes.

I don't remember all the dishes so I will refer to a menu I found online and hopefully I will get all the dishes right.

Our bread selection for the evening...garlic and herb focaccia with roasted garlic dip

dcl2.jpg

I started with the Creamy Butternut Squash Soup, which was as good as it has been in the past.

dcl6.jpg

Mulan Chilled Gazpacho

dcl7.jpg

Wild Mushroom Risotto and Porcini twist

Roma Tomato and Portobello Mushrooms on Polenta Cake

dcl4.jpg

Fire Roasted Beef Tenderloin

dcl8.jpg

Now, that's what I'm talking about!!! It was really good!

Ummm....no idea what this is...sorry :confused3

dcl16.jpg

other desserts...

Double Fudge Chocolate Cake

dcl14.jpg

dcl15.jpg

No idea what this is but it looked gross
dcl17.jpg

Strawberry Sable
dcl18.jpg

And an anniversary cake...like we hadn't eaten enough already :rolleyes1

dcl19.jpg

Honestly, the food was good but what made our dinner really fabulous were the people at our table and our amazing servers, Orlan and Cindy. We laughed throughout the entire meal. I guess the food complemented everything else but it didn't stand out. It was better than our last cruise on DCL in 2007, so I was happy about that!

!

Those are the Samosas Gary had, A East Indian perogy if you will..lol

and sorry for the stolen bills.. Sean is a budgetaholic... we still have them if you want them..lol :thumbsup2

I am giggling still from the photo of you as the third wheel with Belle, your dd and dh! That is a priceless shot! And the ones they took of your daughter professionally are fantastic! Can't wait to keep reading about the cruise! That's hopefully in our future when the new boat comes out.

Breakfast at Topsiders & Goofy's Galley

Pretty much every morning we ate breakfast at Topsiders. I would have liked to try Lumieres for breakfast once or twice but having a toddler, well it's nice to just get in, eat and get out.

The buffet was good, not fantastic but pretty good. The eggs were often very dry, which I wasn't happy about but what can you do?

That first morning, I got up really early, watched the sunrise and enjoyed breakfast with Bernie and Gary. We were at the buffet when it first opened, so it wasn't too busy and I was able to take some photos.

Sorry about the flash but I needed the flash on or else the photos would be blurry.

The biggest disappointment, for us, was that they didn't offer any juice other than OJ I think. (or did they offer OJ? I'm sure they must have) I would have liked to see some little apple juice containers at least. Kira drinks milk with meals but in between meals she likes juice. I made the silly assumption that there was juice widely available on board but I couldn't find any. :confused3

While we were waiting for Topsiders to open, we dropped by Goofy's Galley to see what they offered that early in the morning. Not a bad selection if you're an early riser :thumbsup2

Cass, not sure if you're still on board, but you can get applejuice through room service. Remember having it as part of our 'in bed breakfast' roomservice that was part of the romance package we did just last september. Also had it at breakfast at Lumiéres I think (we were on the Magic, but drinks are the same). Both were in glasses, by the way.

You might want to ask around if Kira wants some. Could be easy, might mean a CM doing a bit of a hunt for it but if it's onboard they will find it.

Hmm, I didn't see that one the menu...thanks for letting us know B! :goodvibes

Nah, I don't need the bills, let the budgetaholic keep them ;) He and I are similar creatures :rolleyes1

I can't wait to go on the Dream! It looks fantastic! :woohoo:

Now that you mention it, I think we did order it from room service one day but the fact that it came in a glass didn't work well for us or else we would have ordered several of them. I think for our next cruise, we might bring some along with us and just keep it in the cooler :thumbsup2 More convenient for us that way :thumbsup2

Character Breakfast at Parrot Cay

I covered our character breakfast in my trip report, so I am going to steal a little from that....

I wasn't thrilled about going to the character breakfast because the food has always been terrible and the character interaction had been kind of crappy but I knew Kira would like it so off we went.

Turns out Gary was joining us for breakfast too and this is where Kira really started to warm up to him.

This was the first time Orlan and Cindy had seen Kira and they seemed genuinely thrilled to see her. I just knew it wouldn't last hahaha

11-8.jpg

I wasn't all that hungry so only Rob and Kira ordered some breakfast. Kira was already starting to get a little cranky so Cindy decided to give her a chocolate donut. I wasn't too thrilled about it because I try to stay away from the really bad stuff for her but she totally calmed down so I let it slide.

The down side was that it was really messy LOL

11-9.jpg

So every time a character came by, we would have to hose her down ;)

11-10.jpg

This is when we realized that we still needed Chip and Dale's signature for Kira's book so Rob ran back to the room to get it for her.

During that time the food came. I looked over at Rob's eggs and they looked sooooo good! You could tell that they were nice and moist, the total opposite of the eggs I had that morning at Topsiders so I decided to steal a taste.

:tiptoe:

I was trying be all stealthy-like and just sneak a bite but they were so darn delicious I just kept eating them. Then I tried some bacon and that was delicious too and so were the hashbrowns!

I couldn't stop myself. Orlan noticed my pigginess and thought it might be a good idea to get Rob another plate. LOL

Kira didn't eat much of hers but she sure loved having a knife. Cindy had given her a little kids knife and she doing a great job cutting her pancakes!

11-11.jpg

Kira's Plate
dcl36.jpg

Rob's plate (mine actually )

dcl37.jpg

Rob got back just in time for some signatures and to see the start of Kira unraveling.

She was fine when the characters came but in between, she was a mess!

Here's the good parts

11-12.jpg

11-13.jpg

11-14.jpg

11-15.jpg

11-16.jpg

By this time Bernie, Sean and Bailey had joined us. Lucky them! :rolleyes1

No idea why she was cranky :confused3

All Bernie could say was "Wow!"

This was when Orlan started to make us funny hats out of napkins and this is where Kira REALLY lost it.

For some reason she did not want anyone to be wearing these hats!

You can see her hand in this pic, she was screaming and trying to reach it to take it off.

She just kept yelling TAKE IT OFF TAKE IT OFF

11-17.jpg

So I did.

But then that horrible Orlan made one for Rob and she flipped out again!

11-18.jpg

And then the worst thing ever happened....he made hats for EVERYONE!!!!!!

Look at her yelling at Rob to take it off. LOL!

11-19.jpg

WOW!

Ummm.

That was fun!!!

I just looked at Orlan and Cindy and said "Aren't you glad now that she's not at dinner every night?"

:rolleyes2

We ran outta there as fast as possible and went back to the room.

I have to admit, the food in the past was really bad at our character breakfasts and if we didn't have Kira with us, we would have skipped this meal. It turned out, however, that it was my favourite breakfast for that whole week, by FAR!!! The food was hot and delicious and of course, we had our amazing serving team. Too bad Kira decided to completely flip out, it would have been a fabulous experience if she hadn't. :thumbsup2

Once again, I am laughing so hard! My daughter would react in the exact same way, about the napkin-hats, and I think she would have the exact same expression on her face.
