Cass, Rob and Kira back in Disney - Food Reviews!! Completed 03/13/2010!

I'm with you... the wheat buns are  I'm all for having them available if people want them but good lord... I'm ordering a burger and fries... what makes you think I want a wheat bun??? :confused3

Restaurantosaurus at Animal Kingdom - October 18th, 2009

The next day we were back in WDW and we met up with our friends who had never tasted Disney chicken strips so of course we had to show them what they were all about :rolleyes1

Don't worry, there's more than just chicken strips in this food review, I promise! :lmao:

Kira asked for a hot dog so Rob and I got the strips and Kira got a hot dog basket, which brings me to another pet peeve about Disney food...I wish they would offer items on their own and not with fries all the time. Kira does not really eat fries, so it was a huge waste for us.

When I was ordering the food, I asked the CM if I can order just the hot dog separately and he told me no, it only comes in a basket so basically I paid almost $7 for a hot dog! And Kira doesn't even eat the bun so really, I paid almost $7 for a wiener! Considering I can get a dozen of them at that price at the grocery store, it makes me wanna :scared1:

As usual, the strips were excellent and Kira wolfed down her wiener in minutes!

We had:

Hot dog Basket $6.59
2 Chicken Strips with Fries $15.38

Total with tax: $23.40

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 out of :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 for the food but only :thumbsup2 for variety and options!

I would love to see a "basket" with a fruit option. ::yes:: They offer it in kid's meals but what about for adults, or if your kid eats off of the adult menu?? :confused3 :sad2:

T-Rex at Downtown Disney - October 18th, 2009

This was our first visit to T-Rex and we were looking forward to it. I know it's not fine dining, but we like the big cheesy, themed restaurants, especially ones we've never been to.

I had been showing Kira videos and pictures of T-Rex for months and now and she was very excited to be eating with the dinosaurs!

We were dining with our friends again so I called months in advance and made reservations for us at 6pm. It was super duper crazy busy but with a reservation, we didn't wait long, maybe 10 minutes. Kira LOVED the play area while we waited and Rob had to literally drag her out of there when our table was ready!

4-23.jpg

The restaurant was super duper loud but we were expecting that. What I wasn't expecting was just how huge this place was!

We were seated in front of the blue ice room, in the main (and first) area not far from the entrance. This proved to be a huge pain because the back of my chair was right up next to a very busy walkway. My chair was constantly getting bumped, ran into, walked in to, and kicked.

4-19.jpg

Kira got some crayons to play with but she still had attitude about us tearing her away from the dig zone.

Can you see the 'tude?? LOL!

4-17.jpg

It took while to get our drinks and get our orders in but there was enough stuff going on in this place in order to distract us all.

We got Kira the mac and cheese

wdw20.jpg

She seemed to like the tiny amount she actually ate. For the most part, we didn't order her own meals on this trip because she doesn't really eat much and I hate paying $8 for her to eat 5 bites of something. But she had been eating mostly hot dogs at this point and I wanted her to have something a little more substantial. I wasn't worried too much because she eats a lot of fruit.

For those of you who didn't read my trip report, every day that we were in the parks, I brought along a container full of fresh cut up fruit that we bought at Publix. I put it in the freezer for an hour before we left each morning and I kept it in an insulated bag. By 10:30-11:00AM, we took a break from touring and ate our nice cold fruit. This seemed to really recharge both Rob and Kira and it kept them going during the day.

4-3.jpg

I believe Rob ordered the steak

wdw19.jpg

The restaurant was so loud and Kira was sitting in between us, I don't remember if Rob enjoyed this or not. :confused3 He seemed pretty happy so I am guessing that he enjoyed it.

I ordered the cheeseburger..

wdw21.jpg

Let me just say how wonderful it was to not have a whole wheat bun this time!

My meal was pretty good. It would have been MUCH better had my food been hot instead of just barely warm. I could tell that the waffle fries would have been amazing if they were hot and fresh but they were lukewarm and had been sitting around for awhile.

Here's the chicken and boneyard buffet that our friends ordered

wdw22.jpg

wdw23.jpg

I believe everyone enjoyed their food, I don't recall any major problems.

At this point I could see that Rob was conspiring with the waitress to bring us some kind of dessert for all of us but I really wasn't interested. I had planned on walking over to Ghirardelli's later for a sundae.

I tried to stop him from getting us dessert but the waitress wouldn't listen to me and I guess I was outvoted

Apparently Rob was making arrangements for them to bring us something that said Happy Anniversary on it since we didn't do anything special for our dinner yesterday.

And this was the end result :rolleyes2

4-18.jpg

I laughed at the spelling but I ate some of the dessert that came with it...donuts with dipping sauce.

wdw24.jpg

While it wasn't bad, I'm just not a donut kind of girl. Heck, I'm not really a dessert kind of girl but if I do get dessert, I like something with chocolate and peanut butter in it ;)

Kira sure enjoyed dipping and smearing the donuts in everything though!

4-20.jpg

All in all, it was a fun experience. The company was great, the food was good, the place was very cool.

I give it a :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

If the food was hot and we had a better table, I would have added another :thumbsup2

I can't tell you how much the meal was because our friends managed the snag the bill before we could

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post. I was reading your trip report too and it was so great to read you telling it how it was traveling with an almost 3 year old! We are taking our DS who just turned 3 to DW in 3 weeks and I anticipate ALOT of tantrums and attitude but am going to try to take it with a grain of salt and have a great time anyway!!!

Good luck with that! :rolleyes1:lmao:

All kidding aside, it was tough at times and it was so great at times! We made some really special memories and although she was difficult, I would make the trip again in a heartbeat! :goodvibes

If I ever find any, I will let you know!! :thumbsup2 BTW- just wanted to tell you that I'm loving your new blog!!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Amen!

Kae

I totally agree! I am eating hot dogs and fries and burgers...I'm obviously not counting my calories! I can do that when I'm at home!!! :rolleyes1

I did some research online and found this:

http://www.kensfoods.com/kf/product...ductId=86&productCategoryId=&productFlavorId=

The website says it can be found in most states but it doesn't say exactly where:

http://www.kensfoods.com/kf/products/locatorMap.servlet?consumerProductId=86

It also says you can buy it online:
http://shopping.kensfoods.com/chef39s-reserve-honey-dij39.html

I checked the ingredients of that bottle compared to the dipping sauces in WDW and while they are not the same exact order, the ingredients are almost identical! :thumbsup2

Guess I will be checking stores next time I go to the U.S. :goodvibes

I just checked our Super Walmart and Pick n Save here in SE Wisconsin Cass, and they did not have the Honey Dijon.

Loving your review...but wanted to mention, if you're at a counter service that offers fruit on the kids' meals, an adult can ask to sub the fries on the adult meal for the fruit. My adult daughter did that a couple of times, and it seemed like if they had bagged fruit at that counter, it was allowed...once it was a bag of pre-cut apple slices, another time it was a little bag of grapes.

I'm thoroughly enjoying your dining report (and your trip report too) and now I want to try the chicken strips! Luckily I'll have the opportunity in 2 1/2 weeks! :)

Thanks for doing some research! If I ever find any I would be happy to send you up some! Still enjoying your reviews....we loved T-rex when we ate there in July.

Loving your reviews! I used to be like rob and only eat 1 thing at a time, always saying to all of my nagging family members that I didnt want to mix my food. finally after years and years of relentless pressure I caved in, but It's nice to know I wasnt alone!

I didnt know that the RFC served bfast, even though it wasnt as good as your past visit, still an interesting choice we hadnt considered, so thanks for the review!

Loving the photos, everyone is adorable and it looks like you all had a great time!

Yup, you're right! That's my girl :rolleyes1

Only the RFC in AK offers breakfast and normally it's a lot better than what I wrote about! ;)

I don't think Rob would ever change his eating habits! :lmao:

Dessert at Ghirardelli at Downtown Disney - October 18th, 2009

Even though we were still rather full from dinner, we all wandered over to Ghiradelli's because I was itching for something with Peanut Butter in it!

The place was packed! We got into two different line ups, I ordered the PB hot fudge sundae and our friends got a sundae too but I don't know which one it was.

We finally spotted a table outside and sat and waited for our treats.

I think we were still high on donuts from T-Rex because we all hyper and having WAY too much fun :lmao:

Here's Sean and I laughing about our numbers :rotfl2:

Disney2009FlightandAnimalkingdom143.jpg

Thanks Bernie for the photo!

It took quite a long time before we finally got our ice cream.

Ours...sorry kind of blurry, I was still laughing!

wdw25.jpg

Maybe I was just too full but I didn't really enjoy it. Between the three of us we couldn't finish it. In fact, it made me feel rather ill later. :crazy2:

Guess we didn't really need that dessert after all :rolleyes1

PB Sundae $7.95

50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM - October 19th, 2009

We met up with our friends at 11:30 am for lunch at 50's PT. We always have so much fun here so we do this one every trip :thumbsup2

Our friends ordered the Onion Rings and to our surprise, Kira loved them! Thankfully we have great friends who shared them with us.

wdw27.jpg

Next time we are getting two of these babies to share! ::yes::

5-14.jpg

Rob got his usual, the fried chicken

wdw30.jpg

I ordered the ham sandwich

wdw29.jpg

We shared our food with Kira and she seemed quite happy with it all.

wdw28.jpg

At one point though, she refused to eat the chicken on her plate and instead she kept asking Auntie Bernie for some of her chicken! :lmao: Hey, whatever it takes to get her to eat something good, right? :rolleyes1

Rob devoured his meal and enjoyed every last bite.

I actually enjoyed half my sandwich but I was too full to eat the rest. It was nice and light though and enjoyed what I did eat! Normally I don't eat much here because everything is so heavy. Last time I just ate onion rings and I was happy.

I think the next time we will have a late lunch instead of an early lunch so that I am really hungry. I just don't get hungry until about 1pm when I am touring the parks. Weird eh? At home, I stare at the clock and by 11am I am starving!!!!

Our server was pretty good, sharp and cranky, like they should be :rotfl: I'm always the one who gets in trouble here though!! What's up with that!! :rolleyes1

It was yet another fantastic dining experience and we all left full and happy!

I don't have the receipt for this meal (I think S & B stole it! ;)) so I will take prices from All Ears:

We had:

Fried chicken $14.99
Stacked Sandwich $11.49
Diet coke $2.00
Coffee $2.00

Total with Tax $32.31 approx

An all time favorite of Kristin's too Cass. Ever since she was little, she would pull out the onion and eat the crust. Now almost 26 years later ... she still eats them this way. :lmao:

Kira look very deep in thought here. Almost like "Hmmmm, how do I get this slimy little onion outta here and just eat the crust"? :cutie:

Too cute! :cutie:

Actually, what shocked me the most is that she ate it all, onion too! I think she ate 3 full onion rings!!! :scared1:

When I was little I ate them the same way. I don't think I started eating the whole ring until at least high school.

Sci-Fi Dine In at MGM - October 19th, 2009

We met up with our friends again for dinner at Sci-Fi. It had been several years since we had eaten there so I was looking forward to it.

I also had secretly hoped that the movie clips they show would distract Kira enough so that we could enjoy our dinner.

We arrived about 10 minutes before our ADR time and we were seated in about 10 minutes.

5-44.jpg

I was a little worried about the seating because Kira would have to sit with Bailey and I wasn't sure how Bailey would feel about this. She is a teenager, afterall and I didn't think she would be thrilled about sitting next to a 2-year-old.

Let's just say that Kira sitting next to Bailey was the BEST thing evah!!! We should have done this for ALL our meals. In fact, after this meal, I wanted to steal Bailey away and have her tour the parks with us everyday :rolleyes1

Kira got a Driver's License

5-45.jpg

Kira enjoyed sitting with Bailey as well as watching the movie clips.

We got her a glow Tink, the first and only of the trip. She absolutely loved it! We clipped it onto her lamp in her bedroom during the rest of the trip and she was thrilled.

5-46.jpg

5-47.jpg

We ordered her a child's meal and to my surprise and delight, she ate almost all of it.

5-51.jpg

wdw34.jpg

She ate all of her pizza, (except for the crust which she happily shared with her daddy) all of her apples and even some of her vegetables!

Rob ordered a shake and Kira shared it with him :goodvibes

5-52.jpg

5-50.jpg

Can you tell that she's a daddy's girl

5-54.jpg

Rob ordered the ribs

wdw31.jpg

I just got some onion rings because I was still full from lunch

wdw36.jpg

Bailey got the steak with green beans (more on those beans later!)

wdw35.jpg

Bernie got the steak salad

wdw32.jpg

and Sean got some sort of pasta dish

wdw33.jpg

Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I still can't believe how much food Kira ate! Must have been hungry from all that dancing at the Block Party Bash! :lmao:

At one point during dinner, I looked over and saw Kira eating Bailey's green beans. Not only was she eating the beans but seemed very happy about it!

I asked how Bailey managed to do that (Kira doesn't often eat beans or any other vegetable for that matter) and she told me that she told Kira that if she ate her pizza, she would get a green bean!

:rolleyes2

Wow! What a brilliant teenager! :rotfl2:

She made the beans seem like a treat and it totally worked! She would take some bites of her pizza and Bailey would pass her a bean! :lmao: This went on for about 15 minutes!! I was impressed and promptly offered Bailey a babysitting job :rolleyes1

I tried this process at home and Kira looked at me like I was a crazy person so I guess it only works in Disney with a teenager LOL!

I think only Sean & Bernie ordered dessert...

wdw37.jpg

So, not only was the food good but the entire experience was amazing!!! Kira was super well behaved, (and completely occupied by the movies AND Bailey!) she ate so much food, had absolutely no meltdowns and because of this, Rob and I enjoyed our meal in complete peace and quiet! :cloud9:

I don't think I could have asked for anything more!

Because of all that I am giving this meal 5 :thumbsup2's (I am at my image limit for this post, so I can only show one of them)

Unfortunately, I don't have the bill, I think S & B are bill thiefs LOL but it was totally worth every single over priced penny!

This was, by far, my favourite meal experience the whole trip!
