Cashing in my jar of change

When I have change instead of throwing it in a jar I have four tubes, penneys, nickles, dimes, and quarters. They premeasure a roll size. When one is full I pour it into a coin wrapper and its done. Takes no time at all. When I am getting ready for WDW I take it to the bank where they accept it as is and give me cash. No fees. By doing it as I go I never take much time at all to do it and I can gererally save about $200 a year for trips.

Capital One (former Chevy Chase) doesn't charge if you have an account there. They have one of the large coin counting machines there for public use in the lobby. I have my business account there so that I can get the free coin counting. I go every year on Dec 31st and turn in all coins collected over the year.

We mainly bank at USAA (love them!) but opened a Capital One account recently because they sent us an offer for $200 with a new account with direct deposit. DH has a second part-time job, so we direct deposited that into the new Cap One account. And the bonus was when we went into the branch to discover a coin machine! Free for account holders! We save up all of our change for our WDW trips and that goes for food and souvies. :thumbsup2 The Cap One account will also be for WDW.

How common is a bank fee where you are? I would never use a bank that charges me "membership"!

In Canada, very common. In fact, I can only think of one bank that doesn't charge a monthly fee, and that bank doesn't have any teller service. However, with bank fees, we don't get charged anything else, ie: bank drafts, exchange rates, coin exchange, debit purchases, cheque fees, transfers. Its all included in our bank fees.

Interesting. I'm curious how many banks here charge those fees or monthly fees... I know some charge for just about everything. Luckily, our credit union only charges for bank/cashier's checks ($3), which we have only needed once.
