If you make cash ressies for one night, it's 25% off rack rate, if available? How do I find out how much is rack rate for 1BR at VWL? Do I need to call member services, as the inventory is different than just booking a room?

Just go to the Disney WOrld website and you can choose not only the cash resorts but the DVC resorts also. You can also check studios, one bedroom and 2 bedroom, but for anything larger than a studio you would have to list more than 4 people.

ok. I got a rate for a Saturday night 1br at vwl for $466.88. Do I take 25% off that, or is that the discounted rate? It's 56 points for that room, and if I have to rent points @ $10-11/point, it's $560-616?

Am I missing something?

That sounds like the full rack rate. It's rarely a good deal to rent points for weekend nights.

O.k., I know DVC owners get 25% off rack rate, but do you still pay taxes and resort fees like other guests? If so, that usually adds up to around 12 to 15%. I'm guessing we do pay those taxes and fees, but does anyone know for sure?

When I needed the rate, I called Member services to see if the 25% discount was available for the night that I needed it for. They will tell you if it is and how much it is going to be.

If you pay cash, you have to pay taxes. I'm not sure what you mean by resort fees.

Yes, you still have to pay taxes which are usually 12.5%.

To give you some idea, during Magic and Adventure season (specifically, second week of August or second week of December), these are the quotes I got:

OKW or SSR 1BR = $277 + tax (that includes member discount)
BWV, VWL or BCV 1BR = $425 + tax (no discount)

It sounds like it's rarely a good deal to even use your own points for weekend nights. I would like to spend 1 week in a 2br in the Summer. I can spend 5 nights for approx. 200 points. The additional weekend nights require approx. 150 additional points. I would love to be able to add on more points in the future, but I cannot justify this. I guess I will either take a shorter vacation or pay cash.

Thanks! That's good to remember...that pretty much knocks the total overall discount down to 12.5%.

I called and was able to get a 1br at vwl for cash with the discount. The quote was $311 plus tax/per night. Total $347. This was Aug 13-19th.

To me, it is usually worth it to use points and stay. We bought our points to stay in DVC, so that's what we do. If I have use pay cash, I should have bought more points to begin with. If I need a few more points for this stay, I'll use fewer for the next one. Or borrow from next year and only take one trip instead of two.

It really depends on your personal circumstance. When my mom was alive, I sometimes did cash nights on weekends to extend my points. Knowing she was not in good health (breast cancer), I did not want to buy more points to cover the weekends. I mainly bought DVC for us to share vacations. It came down to about $6.67 per point to pay cash for weekend nights in a 1 bedroom at OKW, I figured that was pretty close to what it would cost to buy more points (amortized) and maintenance dues. Now that she is gone, I am staying in studios and have more points than I need, so I'm glad I didn't buy more.
