Cash Ressies Under Non-DVC Under Non-DVC Member?

Is it possible to make DVC discounted cash reservations under a non-member's name? Or initially make the reservation under the member name, then change it to the non-member...much like what is done in renting points?

What I have always been told is that the member must be staying on the reservation to get the discount.

And the discount isn't always available.

That is the only info on the topic I can find - that the member must be in the traveling group. But how do they verify at check-in I am present? I can't find even one sentence on the topic of cash ressies made under non-dvc member names any place on the web.

(I'm not looking to make money off my DVC discount, doing this on a regular basis. I just want to do a nice thing for a good friend. And I can't make the ressie using my points as its the end of my use year.

If I'm reading your posts correctly, you want to book a member discounted cash room at a non-DVC resort?

Discounted Member Cash reservations are not available for non-DVC Resorts.

While policy suggests that discounted cash reservations are available only for DVC members, the reality is that MS has been allowing DVC members to get the cash discount for their non-member guests at DVC Resorts.

It is one of those situations that could change at any moment since it is contrary to the written policy, but this has been allowed for a number of years now.

It sounds like you are referring to the rule of 4? If so that restriction doesn't apply to DVC resorts so if you have the points you could book with them.

Not sure of MS policy, but in May 2010, I received the DVC cash discount for a BLT studio for my sister (I was not listed on her reservation.) We then were able to link that night to the front and end of her stay made on DVC points.

If there are no points there are no points, but it simply being the end of the UY doesn't preclude booking at a DVC resort with points!

When we have used the discount, the member had to book the reservation and present photo ID at check in. If they will let you book it and put your friends name on it, then you should have no problem.

You should be able to book. They allowed me to book a room in December for my DS and his girlfriend and I was not going. New ended up getting the room on points through a wait list but there was no issue doing it as a discounted cash ressie.

Yes, I can verify that I indeed was able to make a cash res at BWV a few years ago for my non-DVC BIL & SIL with no issues.
