Cash reservation? I am simply not getting this...

Ok...I called yesterday to see what kind of discount I could get paying cash with DVC. (I had done a post here a few days ago, but no one answered)

We already have our week at SSR reserved with our points. I wanted just to add 2 days on anywhere, I was not being picky. (this was for 6/12 and 6/13)
As best I understand this, the discount only applies to DVC rooms at the DVC hotels. I was only quoted availability at SSR and OKW for a studio for about $240 per night. The guy I spoke to (I've heard people more excited about a root canal...it was pretty darn funny truthfully) said this was all that was available. I didn't book anything and hung up.

I called then back to WDW reservations, they have rooms available at the BW, the BC, and the WL? I ended up booking a CY view at the WL for a little more than the quote of the studio at SSR and OKW.

What am I missing. If I'm paying cash, how can DVC say the only thing availbable is those 2 resorts? Is it the only thing available in their system? I know this seems to be a very sore subject on this board but I just am not quite understanding it. Is it just that there are only so many rooms alloted for a discount? Could someone clear me up?:confused3

thanks!

Cash reservations available from DVC have to come from DVC inventory, not CRO inventory. Wheter or not anything is available for cash discount depends on what's in that specific inventory.

Thanks Diane...that was my conclusion after yesterday. I just really needed someone to verify I was understanding it.

The DVC guy I spoke to was so dead toned that I actually was in quite a hurry to hang up. He was the worst person I've ever spoken to at DVC or Disney...:( He did not want to be on the phone with me and I was being quite cheerful with him :)

thanks again,

As Diane mentioned, CRO and DVC (MS) inventories are two completely different inventories. DVC will only have the rooms available by points and the rooms that are available by trades. You will not find any rooms outside of DVC through MS. Also, the 25% discount is only offered occasionally. I have only been able to get it one time at Vero. And if I remember correctly, I made the reservation about 60 days out. You may have better luck with the discount the closer you get to the date.

MS just came through for me on a cash discount. I didn't have enough points for a Friday/Saturday stay in the middle of my upcoming trip in Feb/Mar. I'm already booked into a studio at SSR but the best deal I could get through CRO was $370/night plus taxes for the Fri and Sat, MS was able to secure a studio at SSR for $277 plus taxes and I won't have to switch rooms. I just hope I can get a better AP rate if they come out for my travel dates.

I want to mention too , that the difference with the two inventories is MS can link the reservation to your points reservation so no moving between rooms. You may or may not have to move with a room for CRO inventory.

We have a 5-day stay on points at OKW next month. Originally we did a 2-day cash reservation added on through MS for the member discount. The two reservations were linked by MS.

But then the January AP rates came out and we were able to get the same 2-day OKW reservation through CRO for a better price. We then called back to MS, cancelled the cash reservation and they linked the CRO reservation. MS can link to CRO; CRO cannot link to MS.

Hope that helps.

When linking reservations between CRO and DVC you will at the very least have to check out and check back in on the appointed day. You may possibly remain in the same room, but there is always the possibility that you may have to change rooms also.

Good luck!

Kind of OT but do I have to have a reservation for 08 before they can give me a quote for a DVC cash reservation for 08? The reason I am asking is we wanted to add on a day or 2 to our reservation with a cash discount and MS could not give me a quote as to what the cost might be?

No, you can do a cash only reservation through MS if you are a member. It doesn't have to be tied to a points reservation.

Also wanted to mention that you should make those cash reservations through MS as soon as possible. There is limited inventory for Member discounted cash reservations and they disappear fast. As far as I know, there is no wait list for those cash reservations either. So if you can't get what you want, you would have to keep calling back.

I tried to get a quote for a cash only reservation from MS the other day. She said I had to call back at the 11 month mark to get that information when I booked our home resort on points. I just thought it was odd that she would not even quote me a price.

They will not quote a price unless the reservation is actually available. You can get the full price rates here (plus tax):

If available, the DVC discount is 25%.

I'd like to mention that when you book your cash reservation the member 25% may not be available at the time of booking - but call back every month and check. I had a cash reservation for a weekend in December, the discount wasn't available at the time I booked, but I think by August, I was able to get the discount.

The DVC cash reservation rooms are initially available at 11 months out. Somebody like me, who can't make up their mind, books a cash ressie in a studio thru DVC and also makes a ressie thru CRO at a diff. resort. Three months later they decide for sure what they want to do and they call back and cancel the one they don't want - so the room is now available again. That's one reason you have to keep checking back. We were able to get a cash ressie at VWL for January back in August (5 mo. out) and a cash ressie at AKV for next July in Oct. (9 mo. out - that one took 3 calls). When the AP rates for January came out in Nov. the only studios available when I called were at OKW. It would've been a lot cheaper to switch again, but we decided to stick to the DVC disc. at VWL. The 25% discount was available from the very beginning in both cases.

The thing I thought was odd with this DVC cash reservation system was that they don't even take a deposit on it! Not even one night! And you have up until 5 days prior to the ressie to cancel it! Even through CRO you have to give at least 1 n as a deposit! I just thought that was weird.:confused3 (And yes, with 2 cash ressies I think we need more points! LOL!)
