Cash reservation for a friend?

Does anyone know if I can book/reserve a DVC villa for a friend using cash instead of points? How far in advance of the trip can I do this? Is there a discount off rack rates? TIA for any help/advice you can provide.

I think officially the member must occupy the cash room but I've heard they can be loose on that rule, especially if they member is also on the same trip. The member discount is 25%, you can often get a better discount through CRO and get full housekeeping.

My understanding of it is just like DebbieB's. The cash discount is for the member, not for a friend/relative of the member.

The only way I would do this is if I was booking on points and could not get, say one more night. I would then seek the cash alternative via MS as they could then be linked together.

Otherwise, you will do much better booking via CRO using discounts like AP for example.

Like the others said, the DVC cash discount is for members occupied rooms only.

Perhaps Member Services messed up, but I was able to get a cash reservation through them for my sister last May. She had a room booked on points at the beginning and ending of her stay and needed to pay cash for a night occuring mid-stay.

We have friends traveling with us in May. I booked all nights with points except Saturday. They were not able to use member discount.

Don't forget about the R/T Board. I've rented points many times for my friends as it's usually much cheaper then all the other options.

It's usually not too much of a hassle either since you can call MS and find out exactly what's available before you contact a potential rentee. It saves them the time consuming process of checking availability and writing you back. They can just book it.

Last year I made a cash reservation for a friend, and received the discount and I the owner of DVC was not traveling. I had to make the reservation in my name and list who was traveling,etc, and they would only talk to me. This year, instead of making a cash reservation, what I did was get a point transfer for them, and then make the reservation they wanted, these seems to be a much more cost effective option. They are traveleing during easter break, and a 4 night reservation was like 262 points, we got those transfered from another memeber at like 10 a point, the same reservation cash after discount was a lot higher.
