Cash night in middle of DVC stay

A DVC employee gave me some helpful information yesterday about my upcoming stay, but was vague about one thing that perhaps someone can give me their experiences on.

I have a reservation at Kidani for one night, then I'm homeless for a night (on a waitlist), then I have a few more nights at Kidani. I could pay cash for that one night in between.

She said that the reservation would note it was a continuous stay, but that doesn't promise anything and a lot depends on the resort at the time of stay. There would be a chance I would have to pack up my bags, check out by 11, check back in when room is ready, and re-enter the same room. (and then do that all over again the next day).

I don't mind doing a split stay and packing up my bags one time, but this process sounds like I would have to do it twice and just to stay in the same room. Has anyone experienced this situation?

If the cash reservation was made by CRO/DRC, make sure MS notes on the points reservations the reservation number of the cash stay and that you want to stay in the same room. Make sure that the cash reservation notes both of the points reservation numbers and that you want to stay in the same room. If you do that, the odds you will have to move are small.

If you make the cash reservation through MS, MS should be able to tie everything together for you such that the reservation will appear to the resort as one continuous stay. I've not heard of anyone who booked this way who had to move.

Good luck - hope your waitlist works so that you can worry about something else. :teeth:

I’ve seen reports of similar situations where the guest had to go to the front desk and check out, then immediately check back in to the same room - but didn’t have to actually pack up and vacate the room.

When you check in for your first night's stay, check to see if you are assigned to the same room for your cash stay and then again for your new points stay. They may be able to block you into the same room for the entire stay. Then you just check out, check in, check out, check in and check out.

In my experience with cash rooms with a points stay, if the cash night is made through Member Services, you don’t have to checkout/checkin. If it’s through Disney, you do. I’ve done it both ways, take the 25% discount with DVC or if a higher discount is available through Disney. I once got a 35% AP discount on an OKW 1 bedroom. I haven’t done it in a long time, I used it to stretch points when weekend nights were much higher.

We just did it a few months ago, booked through MS, and we didn't have to check in-out. Like you, we payed MC to stretch points-we were staying for 2 weeks, and paid MC for the weekend in the middle.

We have done this a number of times. Like others have mentioned, once you have both the points and cash reservation numbers all you need to do is call Disney reservations or DVC to get them linked with the added note of combined stay (or whatever they call it).
