Cash for port excursions?

A few more questions before our first DCL trip...

Do you take cash into the ports for non-Disney excursions and/or shopping? We are doing one non-Disney excursion on Tortola which I've reserved with a credit card. Just wasn't sure how difficult it would be to use CC on the islands with international fees and potential holds. I do plan to notify our CC company that we're traveling, but thought cash was always a good back-up. Maybe a couple hundred dollars?

I'm also planning to bring $1 and $5 for on-board room service tips as well.

I personally try to travel with as little cash as possible; I notify my bank and cc company, and put everything on my card that has no foreign transaction fees. I usually carry about $50 of "just in case" cash, but I've not had trouble using my card yet.

When we did non-Disney excursions, some did require payment in cash but since we booked in advance, we knew exactly how much to bring. We also brought cash for tips for our excursion guides, and some extra in case we unexpectedly needed a taxi or food somewhere that didn't take cards. Probably about $200.
