Hypothetically...

If I need four 2-br units for 7 nights in July at my home resort (BWV) it would cost 1224 points. I could cover the first 900 by using 3 years worth of points.

Can I pay cash for the remainder, and still have the whole vacation as part of one big multi-unit ressie? If not, must I rent points to cover the last 324? Or, must I make separate, cash ressies for the "un-pointed" portion?

Assuming all this is done at the 11-month window and everything is available...how do I make it work?

Thanks!

You can't combine points and cash for the same night. A night is either paid for with points or cash, but not a combination.

You can reserve as many days as your point total allows at the 11 month mark. Then you will have to get a cash reservation for any remaining nights that you need. If MS doesn't have any cash nights available for you from member inventory, you will have to call CRO to see if there are any available there (from developer inventory or the inventory of rooms that need to be rented to the public to pay for the trade-outs that members make).

You will have to ask MS and /or CRO to "link" the point and cash reservations to help ensure no one has to check out and then back in again in the middle of the stay. This isn't guaranteed, but you seldom hear of anyone who does this (asks to have the ressies linked) having to move/change rooms.

Cash nights may or may not be available at the 11 month mark.

Sounds like a big trip is being planned. Hope it all works out for you.

You can make cash reservations for the nights you won't have points to cover. Sometimes, there are nights available thru MS- even with a Member discount.

At 11 months, you probably won't be bale to make the cash portion of the reservation thru MS, but can thru CRO. You can try to link the reservations together later. If any discounts become available at a leter date for the cash nights, you will be eligible to get the lower rate.

Your other option, as you already mentioned, would be to try to rent points from another member. You might be able to have them transferred to your account and you then have control over the entire process. You can also allow the other member to make the reservations in your name and still have MS link then together.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

One last question from this newbie: What's CRO??

Central Reservations Office. It's the place all the non-DVC people have to call to make a reservation at a WDW resort. :teeth:

You can call CRO at 1-407-934-7639 or let a travel agent get you a quote and do all the legwork for you.

One of the site sponsors here is Dreams Unlimited Travel. They'll even track any discounts that later become available for you.

Enjoy!

Doc -

Are you sure about this? MS had me cancel my CRO ressie as they said they are two different systems and can not be linked?

Just wondering, maybe I got an uninformed MS person - it's been know to happen!:smooth:

While they certainly don't make it easy, it can be done.

You can have MS note the other res# on your DVC ressie. You should also call the resort a few days prior and have them link them in the resort computer and reverify all of this at check in.

They will not guarantee that the ressies will be linked, but in most cases, you should be fine.

Enjoy!

Book what you can on points for weekdays then book the days you need with cash for weekend nights and have them linked giving DVC the CRO reservation number then fax the resort a week out and reaffirm your needs when you check in.
