Cart Narcs ... I mean, I get it, but when did this become a thing?

Why does it matter? Who does it effect? Everyone seems cool with grabbing one out of the parking lot on their way inside & clearly no workers are collecting them if there are none inside. So what as the difference?

So you are saying that at the grocery stores where you live, there are no cart corrals and everyone just leaves the carts wherever they want? You just grab one from outside to take with you? Nobody's car gets dinged ever?

I can’t say no one b/c I can’t possibly know that, but I’m 41 years old & have never known of anyone who’s car got dinged in a parking lot. The carts do not move at all. The car would have to hit the cart. I have never seen a cart rolling around a parking lot that could even possibly hit a car.

I don't buy "I've never seen it" as an explanation. Lots of things and actions I've never seen, but I still believe they exist. Okay, I'm finally starting to get over my positivity that unicorns fall into this category...

As for the carts never roll so a car would have to hit a cart to create damage? A car will virtually never hit a cart that's not sitting willy-nilly in the parking lot instead of safely in the store.

So do the Narcs have permission from the property of where the store is on to do this and solicit ( by putting their magnet on cars).

Or you could just worry about what happens in your area & move on. Seems like some areas must be more self-righteous than others. It’s not a big deal here so I really don’t care what random internet ppl think. If we are ok with cars hitting things, then they could hit other cars or the corral or anything so I don’t get the point of that comment.

You keep asking why does it matter, but several people are telling you that people not returning their carts affects others by having cars dinged, parking spots being made unusable because of the carts taking up the space, etc. Are you seriously unable to comprehend these issues or just refuse to admit that you are a lazy bones?

Are you seriously unable to comprehend that it’s pretty much impossible for that to happen here. And I don’t see that major issue with carts blocking spots either. For not the first time, I am thankful that I don’t live near some of y’all. It never ceases to amaze me the kinda stuff ppl on this board get worked up about.

Do you spend 24/7 monitoring the parking lot?

Carts do roll away. Carts do block parking spaces. People are worked up because it's happening/happened to them.

I live in TX and it is definitely expected that you put your cart in a corral. I have seen carts rolling or blowing in the wind many, many times in a store parking lot and have grabbed other people's carts and put them away to avoid damage to cars. With our storms and crazy spring winds even carts that are parked on a curb will come loose and roll. At many stores the only place you can leave your cart is in a parking space (there is no grassy area or anything between parking spots).

When my son was little I would unload the groceries into the trunk and push the cart back to the corral then carry my son back to the car. When he was older I taught him to push the cart back after I put the groceries in the car and he enjoyed helping out. Now I am older and have arthritis in both knees which causes pain with every step - I still put my cart back in the corral. Yes, I try to park near it to make it easier but I never leave it rolling around the parking lot!

Well with the level of carts I see around, you would it expect it to happen frequently & like I’ve said I’ve never known it to happen to anyone.

Yeah, strong storms never happen in.... New Orleans.

This is what people are talking about:
I understand the concept. With the amount of carts in the parking lots here, it should happen all the time. I’m moving on. I really just don’t care this much.

Well, that's an interesting assessment. Considerate isn't in any way synonymous with self-righteous.

You know what's impossible? Lighting a match on a marshmallow. Something being pretty much impossible is still possible. (eta: poster before seeing the video above)

Considerate is doing it. Self-righteous is carrying on about how wonderful you are b/c you do it & how horrible other ppl are who don’t.

I also don’t think this video illustrates what you want it to. What I see is carts being blown around & none hit any cars. Even in this strong storm, it also doesn’t seem like they would do that much damage if they did. They’re not being hurled but are just rolling around.

There are very few cars in that lot. But I'm relatively certain the point of posting that video was to show that carts in Louisiana aren't always stationary.

Where exactly are you? Specifically. Because your store parking lots sound like a bloody mess, even though you claim the shopping carts defy the laws of physics there.

I’m on New Orleans. I actually took a picture today b/c I have been paying more attention. This was at 9:30am already & it’s a small example.

Are those striped areas for handicapped parking access? If so, the carts left there would make it difficult for people with mobility issues to get out of their vehicles.
