Has anyone seen the previews for the upcoming Disney/Pixar movie Cars? I've seen some previews and read some articles and look forward to seeing the "realism" of the movie.

I hate to go the other way, but this is the first Pixar movie that I am not excited about ... maybe because I'm not a racing fan. I'm not 100% sure that I'll even see it, and I've loved the other 6 films without exception.

Logic would dictate that I should give Pixar the benefit of the doubt. I, too, have thouroughly enjoyed the 6 prior films. But, there is a big difference in the impression I was left with after each of the other trailers v. this one. There's nothing in it that really has me wanting to see this film. Other than knowing that Pixar hasn't let me down yet, it's hard to get good feelings about it.

Saw a trailer on Yahoo movies and did not quite understand what the movie is about. If it's about animated NASCAR, then I'll pass.

I thought it was about cars that are actually alive in a matter of speaking? I don't know if I care about the subject matter but since it's Pixar we'll go see it. They haven't had anything but good movies so far so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

From what I understand (and I work with a girl who's brother is one of the voices), it has a Nascar sort of theme to it but the cars all talk as does the tow truck and other various vehicles. I personally can't wait.

Does it seem to be taking a lot longer then other Pixar movie gaps. I think thats a bad sign.

It was supposed to be released for Christmas this year but they delayed the release because they wanted Nascar to be in "season" in the hopes that it might spark more interest. I'm guessing they might want to advertise during races and such.

Pixars done well so far and the trailer did show the promise of humor so hopefully it will be ok.

The reason for the delay in the release, and you guys being Disney-philes I'm shocked you dont know this, is because of the ongoing battle between Disney and Pixar. Pixar wanted more of the profits, and rightfully so. Thats why Cars will be the last Disney/Pixar movie (I believe) and thats why Disney
Computer Animation and Chicken Little was born. The delay was in hopes that the talks between the two companies could lead to a mending of fences...which they did not. Pixar will now get the majority of the box office, while Disney will retain character rights, just like they will with the other 5 (not 6) Pixar films, which means you will most likely not see high quality theatrical releases from your favorite Pixar characters, but lower budget poorly scripter direct to DVD sequels and prequels like disney is doing with their own properties.
As far as the story of Cars, its is the story of a young car who has dreams of making it to the big time...NASCAR. It will feature voices of Nascar drivers, as well as Nascar fan favorite Larry The Cable Guy. It looks great, it sounds fun, and if you loved chicken little, then there is no way you wont like this one.
As the tow truck (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy says) "I'd give my left two lugnuts to see that!"
Now thats funny right there, I dont care who you are.

Count me as another who willl be passing on Cars -- as we did with Chicken Little.
I think the other Pixar's appealed to families.
CL and Cars appeals to kids, and in the case of Cars Nascar/car fans.
Looked like Tommy the Toaster (or whatever he is called) and a Chevron commercial to me. :duck: :confused3

As it gets closer, everyone will get excited about Cars. Just like they do with all Disney/Pixar movies. I dont think it will be the huge success that Incredibles or Nemo was, but it will be as big as say A Bugs Life...just depends on the weekend it opens and the competition it has. If it goes against something like Superman or X3....forget it. And maybe thats what Disney is poised to do, bring Pixar down a notch with a movie that underperforms....ya never know. Oh, and I stand corrected, there are 6 not 5 pix/dis movies...i forgot about the Incredibles.

Just to be clear here, unless Disney and Pixar sign another deal (or if Pixar elects to produce any of the sequels to the earlier films), Disney has no rights to any characters in Pixar films past CARS.

No, under the 1997 deal, Disney retains copyrights to all of the Pixar characters. This, along with the money issues, are what the fights are all about. Pixar wants creative control, similar to what George Lucas has with Fox. George Lucas puts up the majority of the financing, and Fox gets a smaller percentage of the profits, where Lucas gets the lions share and retains the merchandising rights. Pixar does not get that now, especially with the merchandising, that is all Disney. If you would like to check my sources, please do. I got these from the Wall street Journal and UsaToday. When I said 5 (not 6) I had forgotten about the Incredibles. As a side note, the next Pixar film-post Disney is said to be called "Rats" . Do we see an underlying meaning here?

Disney retains the rights to the characters created through Cars, and control over sequels. Any subsequent movies Pixar owns lock stock and barrel.

Pixar does get royalties on merchandising by Disney.

My source is the actual Co-Production Agreement, which is filed on EDGAR under Pixar.

.
Which is what I said in the first place. This first started up when Disney wanted to make Toy Story 2 direct to video.

Then please explain why you said I was wrong when I first said:

And actually it started when Disney decided Toy Story 2 should be a feature film instead of direct to video.

Its always worth 10 bucks for a laugh, and if Larry the Cable guy plays a hick tow-truck. ( No offense to anyone with using hick ) then im sure i will go and see it.
