I heard so many things about Sh Boom and I'm so excited to see it! Are they still doing it? What time can I expect it this coming Saturday and Monday? Is there a best place to see it? I bet it's awesome! I know there are tons of videos out there but I haven't watched a single on for anything about DL or DCA. I want everything to be magical and a surprise!

I'd ask a CM in Carsland when they think it'll happen (some might know, some might not have any idea what you're talking about), but usually it happens just after sunset. According to this website, sunset is at 7:03 pm on Sunday (9/11) and and 7:01 pm on Monday (9/10), so I'd plan on getting to Carsland a little before that. The worse that can happen is you have to hang out in Carsland for a little bit.

This is never listed on the DCA showtime list because it changes everyday. It happens right at sunset which moves about a minute each day. Check your phone weather app and it should have the minute of sunset. This is a pretty cool event that doesn't get a lot of press because it's not written down. But it's a very cool time to be there.

When I asked a CM, they said dusk. I have noticed that is after the sun starts setting, when it is darker but when there still light in the sky. I normally go to Carsland around sunset time and just wait, it's worth the wait!

Good Luck,
Kriss

Yup as others said just go there a little before sunset. You will notice others lingering around and sitting on benches, they are waiting for the same thing. Cars is one of my favorite movies and this really was magical for me. The lighting is also great for pictures. My husband thought I was nuts to wait around for lights to come on but then when he saw them turn on in sequential order with music he was sold.

Its right around dusk. Just make sure that you get there a bit before dusk so you can make sure that you don't miss any of it as it is an awesome experience!!

We did it in August and it happened within 5 minutes of the time listed as sunset online. I thought we might miss it as we were running a bit late but we were about 1/4 of the way up Route 66 and it happened. If I was planning on doing it again I'd make sure I was farther up Route 66 (close to Flo's probably) because we were right where the last lights turned on and I think it would be cooler being surrounded by it.

You can use Google to get the time for sunset on the days you want to view. Plan on being on Rte. 66 about 5-10 minutes before that time. You'll have time to grab a snack or drink from the Cozy Cones, then grab your spot. We usually view from in front of Flo's or the curio shop.

Awesome! Maybe I'll try and get dinner at Flo's and wait for the fun!

This is what we do. Grab dinner at Flo's and sit out by the gas pumps. When the music starts we move to the middle of the intersection. We love it. Then soon after DJ comes out and plays music and the kids love dancing to. It's one of our favorite events.

It's fun to be there when they turn on the neon lights to Sh-boom. A cast member told me that there is no set time. The cast member in charge just kind of gauges it and turns on the song and lights when he/she feels the time is right... so get there a little before dusk. :)

We saw it very much by accident on our last trip. Was a cool experience.

You learn something new everyday! In all my reading (and my previous visit) I have never heard of this. I'll be sure to see it on my upcoming visit!

We hadn't intended to see it, but, I realized that sunset was coming and and we were close. So I directed our party that way. Some of us decided to use the restroom, despite my recommendation that they wait just a few minutes and missed it. But my DD8 and I saw it.

That CM can also cancel the show if s/he feels it necessary. We were there once with a lot of dancers, which apparently made the CM nervous. He cancelled the music because he didn't want us dancing. The person in charge of our group spoke with him and convinced him that we had no nefarious intentions, so he started the music and lighting late. So be aware that there are times when the lighting might not happen.

We caught this tonight. Had a RSR FP return of 7:10, we were walking toward there about 7 and I noticed that the streetlights weren't lit yet. I told DH, "Wait...." And it came on a few minutes later. We danced down the street a bit. Neat experience!
