EDITOR’S NOTE 6/23: The cone themed drink cups at the Cozy Cone Motel are now sold out, after they went through what was supposed to be an entire summer's worth of stock in one week. The Cars Land soundtrack CD is also sold out, the Luigi's tire hats will be gone by the end of this weekend, and the Lightning McQueen popcorn bucket isn't far behind. New stock of all these land-specific items won't be shipped from China until late July or August. But there is still plenty of generic One Disney merchandise available in the Curios shop.

So while sold out merchandise is a good problem for Disney to have, it's unfortunate that guests will come away disappointed if they have their hearts set on a Luigi's tire hat.

Lol what? A whole summers worth?

I didn't plan on buying anything except maybe a popcorn bucket, but I find that ridiculous. Because I know they prepared for quite a crowd surge with the hype around Carsland and yet they still weren't prepared enough. Yes what a "problem" for Disney to have - making too much money :rotfl2:

Now I think I do want a popcorn bucket, probably just because they might be sold out while I'm there.

Wow...maybe the people at the top of the merch dept. will get the clue that guests want specialized stuff and not just "Disney Parks" merchandise. That would be good for everyone :)

I agree with PP. I hope this only encourages the merch dept people to create more specialized merchandise.

For instance, I would have loved to get a Cars Land shirt, but they only made ONE for women, and while it was cute, the rhinestone/blingy shirt just wasn't my style. I saw a couple of men's shirts that I really liked, but they wouldn't fit so I would never wear it.

I'm also a big supporter of the household, especially kitchen, Disney items and would have gladly purchased those items that said Cars Land on them, especially any that said 2012 of them. I completely understand that toys, gift-type souvenirs like keychains & magnets, and kid clothing are a must - but with the creative minds at Disney, the selection was underwhelming.

Yep, this thinking is company wide. I stayed at the Boardwalk Villas in 2011, and many repeat guests were wearing these cool Boadwalk sweatshirts. I inquired, and was told all specialized Boardwalk merchandise was discontinued and replaced with generic Disney parks stuff. Pass.

That is really dissapointing!!! They really didn't plan very well did they? :(

I wrote a letter to disney stating as such! I definitely find land specific merch more appealing! I can get generic Disney stuff at Target and Wal Mart!

I hate that there isn't even generic DL stuff. We went with heavy pockets to buy DL souvenirs last time and couldn't find hardly anything we couldn't get here at WDW. (everything is "Disney Parks" even the bags in the gift shops). I finally found a shirt I thought was unique only to see it a couple months later with WDW name on the SAME shirt that I had gotten in DL.

We are taking bets on how long it will be before they are selling drinks out of orange safety cones at Lights, Motors, Action. I hope we are wrong but history doesn't make that too likely. :sad1:

Also, their problem reminds me of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter where they ran out of what was supposed to be a year supply of butterbeer mugs in the first couple weeks. Amazing how low they must speculate attendance will be!!!

Not suprising with knowlege of what happend a couple weeks ago.

During the previews some merchandise was pulled from shelfs because it sold at a high rate and there was concern it wouldn't be available for the opening on the 15th.

Disney knew about this over two weeks ago. I would bet it's all back on the shelves for the week of the 4th.

On the shelfes of ebay, that's for sure, sad but true. I was wondering and had to check it out, and there it was...:sad2:

As of Sunday evening at 6pm, there were still a lot of Luigi's Tire Hats in Ramone's House of Body Art. Maybe they found a little extra stock or the popularity/novelty is wearing off. I only saw two guests wearing them the entire day. And the Lightning McQueen popcorn bucket was still available too. If you're visiting the parks this week and are looking for either of these two items, you may still be in luck! :goodvibes

Personally, I don't know why anyone would want a Luigi's Hat... They make you look so Tire-d!!! :rotfl:
Seriously, yeah that sucks.
I think this planning fell way short. Its another "One more day..." not that many people will show up... Yeah right.
Hopefully, they can pull some magic out of the hat. but you know all those goodies are floating over on a slow ship from China.... boo.

You know, when they posted pics of the previews of Buena Vista Street and Carsland I THOUGHT the stores looked really empty...I think I even commented on it. They were doing all the tricks that stores do when they aren't at full inventory level; which baffled me but I was hoping they were doing that so it looked nice in pictures. Aparently not.

This one is a really good example. They've got an end cap with only two products on it; two of the five shelves are almost empty. They didn't have enough to fill the end cap  Then they've got a two foot section with a front faced hoodie that maybe has two size runs and a couple signs above it. It looks full from the front, it is no where near full.

That said it wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't somewhat on purpose and they are creating an artificial shortage. If their major market is APs, running out of things right before they are blacked out for the summer will ensure they don't procrastinate when they come back in the fall. The other option is they are holding it back until they are blacked out and the tourists pay full price.

:confused3 We were there yesterday and Luigi Tire hats were everywhere...

We were there for the Grand Opening and everyone and their mom had one. lol I told DH to get one, but he refused to wear it. :rotfl: The very next day CL was not very crowded at all, and I didn't see many people wearing the tire hats. Guess it really depends on the day and the crowd. I think they're fun. :-)

Bummer it's the cone cups and carsland pin we were so looking forward to get Wednesday!! Maybe by Friday more will be available, cross our fingers and hope for pixie dust :wizard:

Trust me no conspiracies here! They simply didnt expect the huge excitement over this stuff and low balled their figures. On top of that they didnt expect to have the huge sell out crowds daily either which also factors in the stuff going faster. Who says we are in a bad economy! ;)

That said, I was there just yesterday and like others also saw the Luigis tire hats stocked full on BVS, so its not ALL gone although I suspect it will be within the week. I really dont get the thing with the Luigis hats. Ok, kids in elementary school ok, but grown adults just looks odd and I cant see them wearing those things anywhere BUT the parks. But I guess you can say the exact same thing about Mickey ears so what do I know lol.
