I have read a little about possibly being able to get carry out from some table service restaurants. I had never even considered that as an option before, even though we do carry out at home all the time. I am thinking about doing this for breakfast a couple mornings to save on time when we are getting going, but I am a little skeptical and want to make sure I have it right before I start counting on being able to do that when I am planning dining resrvations.

Does anyone know if carry out is available at Kona, and if so, does anyone know how would we do that? Make an ADR and show up asking for carry-out instead? Call ahead? Or is it just through room service? I would really appreciate any info you could give me on the subject.

I cannot say about Kona for certain, but most of the table service restaurants in WDW do not do walk-up take out. You might get lucky and the restaurant can accommodate you, but in most cases they will not (this is especially true of the in-park venues). However, I think if you have an ADR and when you order say you'd like it to go, that might work.

Thanks! That seems more in line with what I would have expected.

A few years ago, a got a dessert to go from Kona. I think I mentioned I was staying in the hotel. It wasn't a problem.

Thanks! Those huge desserts look so good, I think we might try that one evening.

The Disney restaurants, as a general rule, do not do carry out for meals. You can get a quick breakfast at Captain Cook's, the quick service restaurant at the Polynesian.

when we ate at Kona for breakfast, it was 90% empty...I would guess they would have accepted a to-go request (or brought your order at the table in a to-go box if you asked.)

However, every time we've eaten dinner, both for early dinner (5:30), mid-time dinner (6:30) and "prime" dinner time around 7:30 Kona has been very busy. And we have heard them tell people in the check-in line "no take-outs"

So I guess bottom line is, if it's obviously not busy, it's worth asking...they'd probably rather do the business. But if it's busy, they've already met their sales for the night, so they're not going to have time or need to accomodate any extra requests.
