Can I pack my 12 pack of soda in my luggage so I do not have to hold it in my carry on?
How large can the carry on be? I am in a party of 8, and wondered if we can all toss everything in one duffel bag and take turns carrying it until our room is ready. But DH thought he read in the passporter that it has to be a certain size..much smaller than a bag I want to use.
Thanks!!

You can't put in in your luggage. If, by some chance, the cans leak, you could not only ruin your own clothes, but those of the person whose luggage was under yours.

Carrying around a heavy carryon is a real pain in the patootie. I don't know of size limitations, but next time, I'm packing ours to be no heavier than a heavy purse (and all we had was suimsuits, change of clothes, books, a camera, and a portable DVD player)!

When we went on the 2/21 Eastern cruise, we brought a six-pack of soda so we wouldn't have to buy the soda mugs. We did have to carry it around with us when we boarded. However, we spent most of the time between boarding and being allowed to go to our stateroom eating lunch, so it wasn't that big a deal! I agree that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to pack the soda in your suitcase. I have not heard of a size restriction for carry-on bags. IMO, if you are willing to carry it around with you when you board, that is up to you.

I think there may be a size restriction in that your carry-on luggage has to fit through the x-ray machine. However, I am not sure if this is right.

We have a small carry-on suitcase on wheels that I pack our soda in. It fits inside my big suitcase for the flight down. Once we get to my DD's house, I unpack it, put the clothes back in the big suitcase and we're ready to roll. Whoever invented suitcases on wheels should get a medal!

I had a 12 pack in a suitcase that I checked at the port.

One of the cans opened up from the GENTLE treatment by the baggage handlers. (Watch over your balcony as they deliver the bags to the ship and you'll see what I mean).

It did not seep through the bag, and since I preplanned and had it in a plastic bag, it did not get on anything in the suitcase....

I had a large beach bag I used when I brought two 12 packs of bottled beer on board on March 21. It was HEAVY and we had to carry it from the bottom so it would not break the straps. It was a pain carrying it, but like bassoongirl stated, most of the time was spent eating lunch and everyone had dropped their heavy bags by the door so we were not tripping over them at the table.

When the CM worker who was keeping people from going to their staterooms saw us loaded down with stuff at 1:15, he checked with the steward who said we could drop our stuff in our rooms. I thought that was sooo nice. We tried to drop and go, and not get into anyone's way since they were nice enough to let us go there early.

I would not bring all the pop I did again. It is free at mealtimes and we had tea and punch and lemonade to drink in between.
My kids never touched it.

I brought the pop in a doubled grocery bag and nobody said a thing. Melissa

We brought a 12 pack of diet Mt. dew in our carry-on bag one trip, and in the grocery bag on another trip--no questions asked.

We have transported canned beverages in our luggage before and it is not against airline rules. We would not go against the rules if it was forbidden.

We think of other peoples luggage as well. We'd never pack it carelessly, risking leakage on other's luggage. We take careful precautions to put the drinks in ziplock bags, then wrap the bags in our towels from home.

I've packed 12 bottles of diet 7-up and 12 bottles of bottled water in my suitcases for my last 3 WDW trips and 1 cruise without having any problem.

I've always avoided packing cans since they seem more tempermental to me than bottles.

The only food packing mishap I've had was when my Dad gave me a box of cereal to pack for him. I didn't realize he was silly enough to want to pack an OPENED box and I didn't look closely enough to notice it. Ahh yes, there is nothing like standing out side your room at POR at 11:00 at night beating all of your clothing in the night air to rid them of their frosted flake coating. Not GRRREEEEAT!

Oh well, lesson learned.

It is against the rules for DCL though. Beverages must be in your carry on.

(I'm not a huge rule nut, but this one makes a lot of sense to me. No one wants to be on a cruise where someone's bottle of Merlot ruined the white pants they were going to wear to dinner. DCL is generous enough to allow us to bring on beverages, lets not risk them changing their minds.)

I have to agree with crisi on this one. I know some people have done it and had no problems, but DCL does say no beverages in checked luggage. If people continue to pack things in their checked luggage and DCL starts having a problem, my concern is they will take away this privilege. Whatever you bring as a carry on must fit through the scanner, so it is like the scanners at the airport. I usually bring a small rolling suitcase so it is not so hard to carry around. Another option, which we have started doing, is ordering baskets from Shirley and having her put the items we want into them. It works great, because when we get to the cabin it is already there.

I've called Shirley, and the price of the beer is 2.00 per can regardless of how many are purchased, and soda is 1.00, and delivery is 12.50 to ship, etc.

It will have cost us over 100.00 to bring what will cost us less than 40.00.

I have no intention of DCL handling the luggage as I'm not going to put it with the cruise bags. However, I AM going to check it as airline luggage.

I asked a CM on the Castaway Club line about this. After several minutes of searching through info she said DCL's official word on this is that we can't bring our own drinks AT ALL, unless it is for medical reasons (doctor's note must be provided).

Of course, the "official answer" came after her first answer of "Well, you can and you can't." She even mentioned the tidbit about it needing to be in your carry-on rather than checked luggage. But then she backtracked on that answer after searching through the info provided by DCL.

So, I still don't know what the answer to the original question is. I'm not sure DCL knows, either.

Regarding the size limitations for carry ons, you should check with the airline you're flying.

I drove to the port and they took my rolling soft sided cooler as luggage along with everything else. Did not have ice in it just the soda. It contained a 12 pack of Diet Rite which they opened to confirm, bottled water and a 2 litter of Diet Rite Orange. Next time I would take only 2 liter bottles. Water was fine on the ship. Sodas were not acceptible for medical reasons (allergic to nutrasweet)

I'm checking it in our airline bags, staying at the Hyatt, THEN am putting it in the carry-on.

I'd read this somewhere too. I'll drink Coke, but much prefer Pepsi, so I've been debating which way to go. We're only cruising for 3 days, so maybe just a 6 pack to drink while I sitting on the veranda relaxing????

According to "The Passport to Disney Magic" which we received with our docs for our cruise next week, this statement pertains to coolers & perishable items. When we cruised last March I called DCL and asked if we could bring our own alcohol and they said yes as long as it was in our carry on. We even took a bottle of wine into the dinning room 2 nights. It also states on page 8 of the Passport, "We regret tht we are unable to accept checked luggage that contains fragile items, such as cameras, computer equipment or beverage containers." Are the people taking your luggage when you check in(at curbside or limo drop off area) the same ones who help you when you disembark? If so, then they do not work for DCL and could probably care less if you have soda in your bags or not. Just my thoughts so no flaming aloud.:duck: Ducking anyways.:p
