I am looking to book a carriage ride for our trip this July. I have found out that they run from 6.00-9.30pm. Just looking for advice from anyone who has been on one or been at Port Orleans as to what would be the nicest time to book for.

Right at sunset is awesome. You can look up what the expected sunset time will be on the day you want to go.

I vote as late as possible. The resorts are really nice at night, and cooler.

We went right at sunset & since we were staying at POR we chose to ride around POFQ. If you get Lori & any of her horses she's absolutely amazing & has been doing the rides forever. She has a huge wealth of information on all things Disney.

Thanks everyone. Sunset is listed as 8.26pm. It looks like departures are every 30 minutes and it is a 25 minute ride so it may not be possible to time for sunset. I imagine the resort would look pretty after dark although I'm sure it looks pretty all the time.

Don't mean to hijack thread, but we are planning on this too. Should you book in advance or is it easy to get night of? TIA!

If you know you're going to do it for sure, I would book ahead. It does fill up. Though we have been able to walk up once without a reservation.

We have our 3rd carriage ride booked out of POR in June. We always reserve them for 9pm. We have seen parts of Illuminations both times! Yes, book it in advance! Hope this info helps...

You must really enjoy it. Although this will be our 5th trip to WDW we have never been to Port Orleans. We are staying at Old Key West. It might be nice to get the boat from Downtown Disney. Thanks for your reply.

Great video - it looks lovely. We are planning on going an evening when we have had a TS lunch. We might have a meal at the Riverside Mill. A number of people seem to be recommending going on the carriage ride after dark. If there is a choice what would you go for 8.30 or 9.00?

Just to update I got offered an 8pm reservation for the night I wanted but have taken another night where I could get 8.30pm. It seemed to fit as I had a lunch-time ADR that day. After I came off the phone I then looked at the impact on this with the rest of my plans. I had left the date I have now booked the carriage ride for a night back at Universal. We are staying at Universal at the start of our holiday and this earlier night I now have free I feel is too soon to go back to Universal which would need me to move the Tusker House reservation to another date which wasn't the best in terms of park business. It's amazing how one piece of the jigsaw in terms of planning can knock out other ADRs. I'm wondering if it might just be easier to phone and change to the 8pm on the original date if still available.
