Okay so this Friday we are coming over to Orlando for our planning session/menu tasting. Saturday I made an apt to head to Carolyn Allen's to discuss Jeff's tuxedo and the steaming of my dress, short dress, and veil. I'm a little hesitant about using them because I've read about some mishaps with tuxedos being the wrong size. Since we are some-what local... We will be making another apt when it gets closer just to do a remeasure for Jeff (in case we do some pre-wedding diets lol). We will be getting married on a Saturday and getting over to orlando the day before Friday, so that's probably when I'd have his tux delivered and my gowns steamed.

So does anyone have any good/bad experiences with them?

My wedding dress is satin and my short dress for dinners is tafeta... Are they both steamable?

Thanks for the help!!!

We went to Carolyn Allen's when we went down for our Planning Session a few weeks ago. We loved them. Very nice people to deal with. DH is getting his tux from them and they are steaming 2 flower girl dresses, 2 extra dresses for me and my dress twice. We feel totally comfortable using them.

I am not so sure that the tuxes being the wrong sizes are entirely their fault. In a lot of cases, the meausrements are taken at home (and not always by someone who knows what they are doing) and they only can go off what has been provided to them. That's why it is always good to have them delivered as early as you can so that if there is an issue, it can be fixed.

I am not sure about your dresses. CA's is the best source for that.

Good luck with your trip!

Taffeta needs to be pressed not steamed. CA's asks for the fabric name of your dress though, so if you list that you have a taffeta dress they should bring an iron to press it.

I used CA's last week and was very happy with their service. I booked them last minute, and they kindly worked me into their schedule on a Sunday afternoon after they normally closed (their last appt is normally 3pm, but they came at 4pm since our plane didn't land 'til 3). They did have me ship my dress down to them so they could press it before delivering it (it was taffeta) and then just touch it up at the resort. They met us when we arrived and quickly put the finishing touches on the dress in the room.

We didn't use them for a tux for dh, but I can highly recommend them for their customer service! :thumbsup2

If you'll be doing the fitting through CA, I don't think you'll have any problems. We only had fit problems b/c the best man got measured back in LA by someone who didn't know what they were doing, so we gave CA the wrong measurements. This was discovered at a Friday-afternoon fitting before a Monday wedding, which meant it was too late to get new pieces sent from CA's warehouse out of state. If we had used a more common tux style or if the best man had been a more common size, this might not have been an issue because they do keep some styles and pieces on hand at CA.

I wouldn't worry about it in your case! :thumbsup2

We thought they were really good, we had one that ended up being the wrong size, but it wasn't an issue for them to bring the right size the next day. They must have made around 4 trips for us, and they never gave us the feeling that we were making things difficult for them or anything, even though quite often we would keep them waiting trying to get back to our resort from where ever we were.

Also at last notice they were able to provide a rental for my dad, which was really handy, as he travelled to the other side of the World for my wedding without one... :faint: :lmao:

I was best man at a wedding on 4/29. There were 8 adult and 2 child tuxedos ordered through CA, and all of us are scattered about the country so we submitted measurements via their website.

We had a tuxedo fitting Friday morning in the groom's room, and two folks from CA were there helping to make sure everything fit correctly. We had a handful of issues - a few pairs of pants were a bit too long, a couple of shirts were too small/big, and sizing on a couple pairs of shoes was off.

The CA staff re-measured those items, and on Saturday morning delivered newly hemmed pants, and shoes/shirts in the right sizes.

The groom had his measurements actually done by CA during their planning visit back in January and his tux fit fine. My guess is that with the rest of us, most of those issues were most likely caused by having the measurements done by a third party back at home.

Either way, CA had all the new stuff in the BWI lobby bright and early the next morning. Everything fit perfectly, and we were good to go for the wedding on Sunday. They seemed to be responsive and customer-oriented from my dealings with them, and the Groom didn't have any complaints when all was said and done.

Good luck! :goodvibes

I recently used CA for suit hire. We got all of the male wedding party measured at a tailor in the UK and sent them the measurements. CA came to our hotel in Lake buena vista two days before the wedding for the men to try on the suits. They all fit but some of the men needed the trousers a bit longer and one of them needed a bigger size shoe. They then delivered the altered suits on the morning of the wedding. Everything fit perfectly and they all looked fab. I have nothing bad to say about them

I used CA for my Feb 2011 wedding and had a great experience. Not only are Keith and Sue lovely people, but they clearly work very hard. Like some of the other posters, I had groomsman coming from other places who had measurements done at home. Some weren't 100 % but CA was able to drop off new pieces in the sizes we needed. I would recommend having the tux fitting 2 days before your wedding to allow them time to get additional sizes to you if needed. They went out of their way to get revised sizes/hemmed pants/etc the same day (2 days prior) so we didn't have to bother with re-fittings on rehearsal day. I highly recommend them!

Thank you all so much. We ended up going with Carolyn Allen's for Jeff's tux. They were very nice and we look forward to working with them on our special day!

I used them in May and they were wonderful with steaming my dress. My husband's mother and family were driving down to florida from NJ (where we are from) and 2 weeks before the wedding decided she might fly. My dress is huge and I knew it would be a nightmare to fly with. They were awesome with having me overnight it there. I was in complete panic. They called me as soon as they got it. and promptly at 8am the morning of my wedding Sue came over with my dress and steamed it. It was a great experiance that relieved me of aton of stress!!!!!! We did not use them for tuxes. We used men's warehouse. We had alot of suits that did not fit properly. We had to call and exchange a few pieces the next day.
