Did anyone ship their dress to Carolyn Allen's beforehand? I'm thinking about doing that instead of having to worry if or if not my dress will be allowed as a carry on.......:confused3

I'm shipping mine down! One less thing I have to worry about the day we're traveling! I think there were a couple of other brides who have shipped their dress in the past.

Ditto...shipping mine. No way I want to worry if they will let me bring it on the plane, or risk it getting lost in baggage ! Carolyn Allen's has done this for years and it works. So, it works for me !

Does anyone mind posting what the cost would be to ship a wedding dress?

This is what Kimberly from Carolyn Allen's sent me:

The price of your bridal gown steaming is $65-$85, and this price includes a veil and a small wrap. Larger items, such as capes and crinolines (slips), are considered additional items. Additional items, dresses, and tuxedos are $15 each. Additional dresses that need pressing are $20 each. You may pre-pay with a credit card, or pay with cash or travelers checks at the time of service. We do not accept checks, and we cannot accept credit cards at the steaming. If you would like to pre-pay with a credit card you can click here to view our secure online payment form. This page also has links to printable forms you can download and mail or fax if you are not comfortable sending your information over the Internet.

If you decide to ship your garments to our store before your wedding, there is an additional storage fee of $15 for the first garment and $8 per additional garment. This fee includes delivery if we are steaming your garments at your hotel. The following are considered 'single garments' when calculating storage fees:

*

A gown, veil, and small wrap
*

A bridesmaid or formal dress with a small wrap
*

A suit or tuxedo (jacket, trousers, shirt, vest, tie, etc.)
*

As with steamings, large items like capes and crinolines are considered additional pieces

Our shipping guidelines are as follows:

*

Please do not include items that we are not seaming, such as shoes, undergarments, headpieces (unless attached to a veil that is to be steamed), or purses.
*

We recommend shipping your garments no more than 2 weeks before your wedding. Additional storage fees will apply for garments shipped farther in advance.
*

Be sure to use a delivery service that allows you to track and insure your garments (UPS, Fed Ex, etc.).
*

The outside of the box should list the wedding party name and wedding date. For example: Smith/Jones 2/14/04
*

Also, please enclose a detailed list of all items you are including so we can inventory them when they arrive. This list should also have a contact name, address, and telephone number in case the label on the outside of the box is damaged and unreadable.
*

Payment for storage must be prepaid or enclosed with your garments and may be made by credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover) or money order. We do not accept checks, and we do not recommend sending cash.
*

All steamings and storage fees are subject to an additional 6.5% sales tax.
