Apologies for the delay but I've had that Virus cold thing that's been going around so have not been too well since a few days before xmas and am only just recovering. So long posts have been out of the question. Also can someone let me know how to link to previous posts so I can put a link to my other trip reports thanks.

Day –3 (02/12/02)

Today’s the Day.

Who are we? Me – Jane (real age 28 Disney age 8-must remember passport when wanting to purchase alcohol)
Carol (real age 29 soon to be 30 can’t think of a better place to reach a milestone!-also must remember passport when wanting to purchase alcohol)

Using Twilight check-in has made today much easier, we can have a later start and sleep a bit longer. Should help with the jet-lag!

Eventually get onto the plane not sure what type but it is a smaller older plane, wish I’d booked Premium Economy now! We’re Sat right next to where the drinks and food are so you can imagine the “traffic” and the smell later on in the Journey. Not sure I like this too much seats very cramp and the control for the films is down the side of the arm. Which really isn’t too good for me as I’m not twig like.

Finally I know kids have a lot of energy but toilets aren’t the place to play hide and seek especially when there is a queue for them!

Virgin seem to be cutting down with the quality those new earphones brake very (very) easy and the goody bag isn’t as good!

Moaning over we eventually get off the plane and go through all the checks etc and make the hike across the airport. One question why is it harder to get into the US than it is to get on the Plane going out?

Onto my first surprise for Carol, I had upgraded to the Limo Transfer so I got one of the things I’ve always wanted my name held up on a board at the airport! I do have to say what a way to travel! Much more relaxed than the minibus and a style I could get accustomed to. I just have to get six numbers on the lotto!

Arrive at the Beach Club, and check-in. I had been concerned after reading about other peoples problems. Had sent my room request in a few days earlier. I’d requested the following (for a standard view). Epcot End, with a woods view, full balcony and non-smoking. I’d mention my Carol’s Birthday in the hope we would get all our requests. Then I kept my fingers crossed!

At check-in we were told that it was newly refurbished which I thought was a promising start but boy it did seem a long way from the lobby. Back to the room 2532. It was fantastic because it was new and also yes we did have the full balcony and even a view of spaceship Earth over the trees. It was such a wonderful day weather wise (Hmmmm….. I will get back to that!) we opened the doors to the patio and the British Invasion were playing. We’re both Beatles fans so I don’t think that it could’ve been more perfect!

We get our luggage brought up and instead of un-packing decide to head to Epcot. Well being so close it would be rude not to. We walked down the stairs next to our room turned right down the not so secret shortcut, left at the gates and what seemed like 2 minutes later we were in Epcot. I have one thing to say about the Beach Club. Location, Location, Location!

Just as we head into Epcot we get the boat across the lagoon after all we need to add to our tally of vehicles travelled in today. Now people that know me think I’m mad but I do become a child again at WDW so just seeing the lights and tree at Epcot made me think wow! We had glazed Pecans as we walked towards Spaceship Earth, this was our first ride last year so we decided to head there first. Yes I know a lot of people think its old hat but for someone like me who has to really pluck up courage to go on a lot of rides its fantastic. I hope that they don’t change it too much.

After Spaceship Earth we head towards Mexico (and It’s a Small World part 2), we then ride Maelstrom. The first time I rode that when I thought we were going to be flung backwards down the waterfall nearly finished me off. I promise to be braver this trip.

Decide to grab a sandwich and a drink to eat while waiting for Illuminations. Get open sandwiches from Norway and a rather nice concoction called a Viking Coffee yum.

Head back towards France to make our getaway back to the room after illuminations. No matter how many times I see it, its still wonderful. Go back to the room and the things I’ve had ordered from the WDW florist are in the room. I think Carol is still a little gob smacked from the things I’ve arranged and there’s more to come. I had delivered a flower arrangement with a couple of foil balloons and a tote back with snack items in it and had a beanie added to it.

Overall a perfect end to our day, the flight almost forgotten….. Can’t wait until tomorrow. I don’t need to be a child to be excited!

Virgin seem to be cutting down with the quality those new earphones brake very (very) easy and the goody bag isn’t as good!

We will be travelling with Virgin in less than 6 weeks (maybe less, I'm trying not to count). What would you say made the goody bag not as good - what did it contain. Did you see anything given to children? Any info appreciated.

They had bags specifically for children as we were 2 big kids we didn't get one!

The other goody bags had the usual pen, pad, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, etc but last year there were a couple of Virgin VIE things in the balm was excellent. Also on the way back we only got a small bag with less in.

I know that there is less Transatlantic Travel and having just started to travel I don't have any other comparisons it just seems that Virgin are taking out the little things that separate them fromt the cheaper flights. Afterall if your getting a small seat pitch and less extras you might as well fly cheaper. Also very picky I know but the headphone sound quality was not very good and for someone as clumsy as I they were very flimsy.

We might be trying American Airlines later this year as I believe their economy seat pitch is quite generous, but they don't fly direct. Might be a good excuse to visit another city enroute and enjoy a longer hol!
