Carnival approved for cruises to Cuba beginning in May

Fathom has already been promoting sailings to Cuba for some time now - these are not tourist trips - you do humanitarian work and are taken to specific locations - still quite controlled.

Having lived in Canada we have been always able to go to Cuba and to be honest it's most Canadians least favorite Caribbean destination. Mind you, I love Havana. That's about the only place I would want to visit in Cuba. Totally understand how it's new to the US residents though.

I'm a Cruise specialist in Canada along with selling other travel and when folks come in for a land vacation 90% of them say anywhere but Cuba lol. It's funny to see the interest now though I do understand the novelty.
That said, Havana is definitely the best choice!

Ha! I've lived in Orlando my whole life and I feel the same way about Disney. Basically, my vacationing philosophy is anywhere but Disney (although it's fun to stop by for a day when out-of-towners are visiting). You're so right that Cuba is just something we've never been able to do before. But it would be fun to try at least once! And maybe have some Cuban food and see Havana.

I personally do not get the fascination with Cuba. Nothing at all against Cuba, I have a number of friends that are Cuban. But everyone I've talked to that's been there said it was pretty sad. Very poor, and the odd comment I've heard over and over is that it's like going back in time with all the ancient American cars being driven around. I don't know. For those that want to go, great, I wish you a great time. I just have about a gazillion places I would go first......

Wouldn't mind getting a peek at Havana and buying some rum but no interest otherwise. At any rate there will be an influx of US tourists for awhile just because it was forbidden fruit. Wonder what would happen when the novelty wears off.

I don't see it as novelty. Cuba doesn't have the ability to support the mega cruise ships and I hope it stays that way for a while. The only ones that can dock right now are small ones, but over time I'm sure ships like the Fantasy will be able to dock or at least tender to the ports. I have an interest in Cuba. I want to see it before all the tourist crap is everywhere. The Caribbean really doesn't need another Diamonds International or Senor Frogs.

Someone stayed in 8044 and talked about the midship detective agency game causing some noise?? You might be down far enough to not have that issue

Cuba is already changing... We went last year and it was a huge change from say 5 -10 years ago. It will have a Senor Frog or something equivalent in no time. The Cuban people are hungry for these changes.

Haha, I see your point ;) Although I also know plenty of Florida residents that love, love, love Disney even having grown up with it in their backyard.
If you get a chance to go to Cuba, definitely go, cruise or otherwise. See Havana, it really is lovely. Cuban food? Well that's a hit & miss. However, an authentic Mojito? Yes! :drinking1
Once you've been you can decide if it's somewhere you want to go back to.

I have a Canadian friend who loves going to Cuba because it hasn't been "Americanized". I could see the novelty in going someplace that doesn't have the American influence we see in so many of the resort cities throughout the Caribbean and Mexico.

Yes it isn't right now, but it's only a matter of time:)
