Cast:
Me (mum) about to celebrate my 53rd birthday in the happiest place on Earth;
Emma (daughter) coming up 20 with an attitude to match!
Paul (husband) not allowed to come with us this year (couldn't afford it, besides, it wouldn't work on site with the 3 of us shaing one bedroom).
There was a change of plan meaning that Paul was going to take us to Gatwick instead of us having to risk the trains tomorrow. Trouble is, he insisted on doing it at 4pm which meant we lost 7 hours packing time.
Still, by 4pm we were ready and in the car. Despite an earlier panic, it was straight down the M25/M23 (only one really short rain shower) and we were at the hotel in about 40 minutes. Strangely, reception is up on the 1st floor so we went up in the lift, Paul bringing the largest case with him.
It took quite a while to get to the desk: there were 3 really slow people at the desks. Paul then left us to get on with it and returned home.
The rooms overlooking the lobby were an unusual touch!

I was persuaded to upgrade to an Executive room for £50 extra, to include the Executive Lounge. This provided afternoon snacks, an evening hot snack service and free alcohol after 6pm. It also included breakfast and we were told it was a much better room.
Mind you, the room was miles away, in the new building. It was like Kidani all over again, with a mile-long trek to get to our room.

A porter followed on with our bags about 10 minutes behind as he didnt have a trolley available. He delivered them while I was still in our rooms bathroom and was happy to go away without a tip.
The room is quite nice we have two small doubles instead of singles, but theyre quite hard.

The first door on the left is an interconnecting door; the second is the wardrobe. The bathroom is to the right. We had a large shower as well as a bath with shower attachment: perfect for washing my hair in the morning. Wasn't so keen on the mirrored wall opposite the toilet, though!
We went up to the lounge for a snack, and she helped me get the internet working on my phone. After some sandwiches and cake, I returned to the room to fetch my tablet as it was easier to work on. Annoyingly, the internet kept kicking me off every 5 minutes!
At 6pm the free booze came out and I had a glass of bubbly. The food was a huge disappointment, and there was one man 2 tables away who was basically grabbing huge platefuls and putting them on his table. It turned out that he was being joined later on. Sorry but coming late is their problem not ours. Why should he put all the food aside for them and leave those people there now with nothing!
Anyway, after some basic crudités, crackers, cheddar (which looked as if it had been out too long) and some parma ham (I think) and a second glass of bubbly, we returned to our room at about 7pm. Emma decided to go and explore, so off she went while I checked in on line and caught up with Facebook.
I then watched Call the Midwife and Dragons Den. We were really quite tired by this time so decided to call it a night. I started my holiday diary and Emma went to bed.
We should be up at 7.30am to go to breakfast at 8am, come back and finalise the packing and then check out and head for the airport by 10am-ish.
I will also have something to say to them about misrepresentation regarding the executive-ness of our room and what I was promised as the perks!
