Hi all,

I'd really appreciate if anyone had experience or knowledge of the carer in their party riding rides that a disabled member(s) can't go on, using the Disability Access Service.

I'm travelling after spinal surgery with my friend who is my carer. There are just the two of us travelling and I want her to be able to go on things without me. My thinking is, if we don't get fastpasses for her, I will be spending a lot of the days waiting on my own. I'm sure I'll amuse myself, but potentially we will each be on our own a lot.

My question is, do disney allow the carer a return time without the service user riding to avoid this situation?

Thanks in advance!
Meryl

No, the DAS holder must ride.

The DAS is for the DAS holder they will take a picture of the DAS holder and the picture must match when going back to ride any rides with the DAS so unless the DAS holder rides no one will be able to ride.

I would book at least one FP your helper want to do that you can not do so they can at lest have there one ride. Also if you refresh the app you can find very good FP the day of for rides it might take a few minutes ( 20+ minutes) but it can be done.

Also since you are just recovering from back surgery make sure you talk to the CM about your needs that do not relate to mobility ( can not stand, can not sit, can not walk to long as these are mobility problem and do not need a DAS) so talk about your other needs ( if any) you have with waiting in the standers line. If you do need a place to sit make sure you have one with you ( a wheelchair, ECV, or a roller with you as Disney has been taking set away and in some places not many places to sit

Thank you, all. Great advice here.

Appreciate you telling me about the reduced seating, Gap2368. I am longer term disabled but this trip will be different on top because of my surgery. I will consider getting a wheelchair, although I normally don't use one.

It didn't occur to me that I could go in the queues with her if I'm not riding, I thought that might be seen as trying to cheat the system. I said it was a shame as I imagined us having quite separate experiences of much of the day as I thought she might be in a long queue while I sit in a cafe if the DAS system didn't allow the carer to get a return time alone.

We'll definitely try to get fast passes too and look for extra ones through the day. I'll also go through the queues with her. I think I like the Hollywood Tower Hotel as much as it's ride.

I would at least have the phone number of wheelchair ECV in my phone in case you find you need then or need more help then you think.

Yes if she would like to ride something that you can not ride and she dose not have a FP then she will have to wait in the standby line and you will have to wait somewhere fro her if you can find a set inside in AC I would think you are very lucky most likely will be outside in the shade( or not) with not sets around

We'll definitely try to get fast passes too and look for extra ones through the day. this will be your best bet also look at touring plans for around $10-15 you can do custom touring plans and do minimal wait minimal walking or a combo of both and your walking speed they have what FP are still open I'll also go through the queues with her. I think I like the Hollywood Tower Hotel as much as it's ride.

I added the red in the above post is mine

You should not get a DAS return time if you are not riding now you are welcome to go in the standby line with your career and then ride and not you but you should not use your DAS for this

You can also get different FP for rides at different times ( as long as you are both in the park) so you can do two rides together that you both want to ride then you can do one ride on each MB that you can not ride but your career can and she uses your MB to ride the ride ( just make sure you are also in the park too) I do this a number of times at space since I love this ride with my friends MB

A couple points of clarification:

The DAS is not for stability/stamina/mobility issues. Im not sure if you have other reasons to need a DAS besides your back surgery, but for accommodations due to your back surgery they will recommend an ECV/wheelchair/rollator.

If you are not riding, your carer can not ride using your DAS, even if you go through the line with them. The DAS holder must ride.

Thanks for clarifying it's a no to the question of can the carer ride solo, or can we go through the DAS fast pass queue together.

I should have made it clear; it is my disability that I require the DAS for. The surgery is the complicating factor I'm trying to work around.

The splitting of attractions on the two magic bands is super useful, Gap2368

I won't be able to stand in the regular queues so finding a quiet, cool spot I think is the best option.
I'll take the number of a mobility aid provider with me and see how it goes.

Thanks so much for taking the time, I really appreciate it :)

Your welcome. Also I would not rely solely on the DAS but would use other things to help you out make the most of your trip ( depending on your needs this could be a number of things that you can do to make the most out of your trip).

And I know I said this but when your career uses your MB to ride make sure you are in the park too
