Was there anything more fun to play with as a child.

A box and a knife you had a fort, spaceship, tanks or racecar

Yes those popping packing material that just used to annoy your parents but we thought it was fun.

Cardboard boxes were the best. We used to build castles out of them. The best was when our parents got big appliances. I could not wait to play with the box.

It just occurs to me that today, kids are more interested in the Xbox. Not knocking video games, because I like them myself, but I think in some ways, the simple creative joys of playing with a cardboard box as kids were much better.

Everybody in

My MIL had a big cardboard box for DD at her house. DD liked to park her tricycle in it. It was her own garage. :p

I don't know, I think the younger children still enjoy cardboard boxes..... I know my two did. They are now teens - I would be a little bit scared it they prefered cardboard boxes to XBox, camping, dating, or shopping. ;)

I remember cardboard boxes being tons of fun. When they were so beat up, we then would take them to a big hill get inside and roll down the hills, steamroller style. We would get so dizzy in fact sometimes you picked up so much speed, you kept flipping over and over until you reached the bottom of the hill. Also in the winter we would also take pieces of cardboard and turn them into makeshift toboggons. Such fun :hyper: :jumping1:

Yep. Cardboard boxes made excellent playhouses. And my cat STILL loves cardboard boxes way more than any old catnip toys.:p

My 9 year old son and a 10 year old neighbor are really into smaller scale boxes right now. They each have their own roll of duct tape and have been collecting little boxes and have been constructing homes, shopping centers, etc. complete with little diaramas inside each box appropriately furnished. It has kept them occupied for days and I'm sure the neighbors are getting a kick out of watching them cart these huge stacks of boxes between houses! The only part that is driving me crazy is that I keep finding bags of crackers etc. in the cupboard - the rule in both houses now is that the food needs to be gone from the box before they can have it.

Ooooh, and I remember the great "sword" fights we'd have with the empty wrapping paper cardboard tubes when Mom was done wrapping Christmas gifts. We'd battle until the tubes were in shreds!

My kids used to make a slippery slide out of the larger boxes, we made cubby houses, cars, you name it all out of boxes::yes::

When we moved into our current home 7 years ago my sons x2 and all the neighbor kids used to put the big clothing and dish boxes on like those inflatable sumo wrestler bodies and crash into each other. They had a ball for days.

I love this thread! I have about 6 big boxes sitting in my office now, waiting for me to figure out how to make a castle out of them! It's for my dd's princess party in October, and I'm kind of at a loss as to where to begin?!? Guess I didn't play with enough boxes when I was a child... That's ok though, because I make up for it now, I'm a packrat! :teeth:
