Card failure? Say it isn't so!

Throwing myself a pity party!

With all the inspiration here, how could I *not* Ebay to get some cash together for our September trip?

So I'm taking pictures of stuff...la la la...getting all ready...making sure that all the stuff is clean and fresh. I've got about 18 things ready to go.

And then..I get a flashing message on the digital camera - Card Failure! All the pictures are gone. So I start over and then same thing happens. I can only assume that this means the memory card is kaput.

To buy a new one seriously eats into Ebay profits available for the trip but not to buy one eliminates them altogether. Sniff.

I don't know what kind of camera you have but many have some internal memory besides the memory card. See if you can change the camera's prefence from card to internal memory- that way you could at least take some pictures and then delete them when you want to take new pictures.
Don't know if this helps.

try formatting the media using your camera. Sometimes this will help.

The other way, try cleaning the gold contact rubbing alcohol.
Make sure you are properly grounded when touching the contacts.

Can you take pics while your camera is connected to your computer? We have a Kodak and I can use my computer screen as my viewing screen (versus looking through the back of the camera or at the screen on the back of the camera) then click with the mouse to take a pic.

Won't you need to fix that camera before you go on your trip anyway:rolleyes: Get it fixed and sell some stuff Quick!!!

Thanks all for your suggestions. As it turns out, the card really is just trashed.

Oh well. So my husband bought another off of Ebay but reminded me that we still have the original dinky card that the camera came with. It only holds a dozen or so pictures at a time, but it'll do for now.

Hopefully it is still under warranty. I know mine carry a lifetime warranty.

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions! I got my auctions up last night and this morning using the "little" card that came with the camera and even managed to navigate a separate failure that caused the laptop to go into "safe" mode repeatedly. A quick (4 hour) diagnostic check, CD backup of important stuff and a reinstall of the OS and we're good to go.

Phew...am I tired1

Do you mean the memory card has a lifetime warranty? I bought 2 memory cards for our trip and 1 was bad before I even got to use it. I took it back and they exchanged it, but I had the receipt and the card was less than 1 month old.

The one that failed for me had a one year guarantee. Of course, the failure happened at the 13 1/2 month mark! I still had the receipt, but the card was clearly out of the protected timeframe.

Yes, yes they do, if you buy them from www.sterlingtek.com
