What do they do when you bring your car in for a tune-up?

Well, back in the good old days a tune up would consist of checking/changing the points and condensor, check the timing and carberator. Nowadays, I have no clue what they do. Once the cars went to electronic ignition and fuel injection, I just gave up and let the mechanics work on my cars.

Generally hooking the car computer jack to a computerized analyzer to see if adjustments need to be made, which for the most part are also done through the computer. Spark plugs may be changed, but in recent years, even those rarely.

They also are recommended at much greater mileage intervals than in the past. You literally can go years without one and not be behind on suggested maintenance.

Oil changes are the most important, make sure to maintain the scheduled ones.
