We're staying at the SSR Treehouse Villas in January. We'd like to go to Universal for one or two days. Is there an alternative to renting a car or using a taxi? Is there a car service that is less expensive? Is there uber in Orlando?

They have Uber all over. I think a tourist city like Orlando would be packed with Uber drivers.

Do yourself a favor, book a room at one of the US/IoA onsite hotel rooms. You will get two days of front-of-the-line access to all the attractions within both parks.

We did a Universal trip from BWV, we had MH Transportation take us. Great family owned company and very prompt. We also use them for our travels to and from the airport. Our last trip we didn't, we used DME but our luggage was lost and came to us one at a time. So our return to the airport we used them.

Used Happy Limo a few years ago when we were at SSR. We prearranged a pickup from Universal but decided to leave a little earlier than planned. Placed a call and no problem. Car arrived at the pickup point just as we did.

I've rented cars and user the Mears taxi, this next trip I'm going to give Uber a try. From what I see it looks to be around $15 to get there.

I have heard from several people now who have used Uber for transportation to Universal and for grabbing groceries. They were all very happy with the service and the price.

We used Uber in January and it was great. We actually got trips to Uni and back, as well as from CR to AKV for free. DH signed up with a promo code and got a free ride. After that ride, Uber gave him a code to give to friends/family, which I then used for a free ride when I signed up for my own account. That ride triggered another free ride on DH account. Our drivers were very professional and the vehicles cleaner than any taxi I have ever seen.
