Hi,

I have a friend traveling to MCO next Tuesday with 2 four year olds and a 9 month old baby. They are staying offsite. They are not bringing any car seats with them. The hotel they are staying at provides shuttle service to the major parks. I asked her how she is getting to her hotel from MCO and she said they will just take a cab or something . . . !! I am under the impression that FL laws require children under 5 to be in car seats - am I wrong? Has anyone else been in this situation? If they do need car seats, is there a service anyone can recommend? Is a shuttle a better bet?

This is why I stay onsite!! Love ME!!!

By Florida law, Children 3 and under are required to be in car seats.

Some cabs will have car seats, but there is no guarantee that they will be clean or safe.

If you call ahead for a taxi from Mears your assured a clean safe cab with all the car seats you need.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. Do you call before you leave for Florida for round trip? Do you know how much it costs? The limo service I may be using is $150 round trip plus gratuties.

If you are riding from MCO no call is needed there will be taxi vans there with appropriate car seats. Call one hour ahead for pick up at hotels or parks. Get the drivers card for further transportation needs.

PS will be less $$$ than the limo.

I did this recently because we went to Sea World last month. We took taxis to and from the airport. It was really efficient. We walked the hallway until we got to the sign that pointed outside to the taxi area. There was a guy at a podium and he had us in a Mears taxi immediately and the guy had a seat for my son, but I didn't like the look of it. This seat was not capable of rear facing. That wasn't the issue as my son is almost 2, but I didn't like the look of it. As tired as I was I took his seat out of the bag and put it in.

I said that to say, the 4 year-olds are one thing, but I'd bring my own seat for the 9 month old. Or be very specific about what she needs when she arrives and even more so when they are ready to come home or they may show up and might not have anything that will rear face. When we were ready to go back I had them call, asked for a car seat for a toddler. A lady showed up and only had a backless booster. Car seat out of the bag again.

If she is going to do this, she might call ahead to inquire of the availability at the airport at any given time and make sure you specify the age of the baby and ask them if they will have a seat that will rear face.

I wish her the best. I'd ask the hotel if they provide a printed schedule of drop offs and pick ups. We stayed at Spring Hill Suites at Sea World and they had a printed schedule that showed what time the shuttle picked up at the hotel and the times it picked up at Sea World and other parks to return with the last pick up each day in bold print.

We had a great time, but I will tell you I have a whole new level of appreciation for DME.
