I'm scheduled to go to Universal in January, arriving on the 29th and departing February 1. I made a round trip from/to the airport car service reservation on line with Tiffany Transportation (I had used them for an earlier Disney trip this year). I just got an email that says they are fully booked on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the month of January. (Okay, so I did need a Saturday pick up, but the second pick up date is a Monday.) Then the email says any reservations for a three day weekend in January have to be "called in".

So first question... have I unwittingly stumbled into a terrible time to go to Universal? Second question... anyone have another car service recommendation?

We are going to Universal mid-January. We went on the Mears website and booked a sedan or SUV from the airport to our hotel. $87 each way including tip for 4 people.

The point about Magical Express going away is a great one. I never used it, so I never think about it. And thanks all for the recommendations as well!

I highly recommend Tony Hinds at aobh607@gmail.com or 407-406-9093. Our cost for the 5 of us was better than the Mears shuttle quoted above and we got a grocery stop to load up on supplies.

Very nice gentleman, big SUV, good price, and a grocery stop!

I was definitely interested in using Tony Hinds, but I wrote the email address a couple of days ago and haven't received any response.

I guess the bottom line here is -- at least for now, don't assume that it will be quick/easy to book car service!

Economy has been wrecked by shutdowns and the pandemic.
Inflation is crazy. Even the $1.99 stores on IDrive have now changed their signs to $2.99 stores. (This happened in late November)

LYNX bus = $2.
$16 for a one week unlimited pass

When we went to Universal last summer, we just used Uber/Lyft to and from the airport. Super easy and cheap!
Uber/Lyft can be super easy and relatively cheap, but it depends on your party and when you're going. I got caught in surge pricing when my plane landed last April, and ended up paying around $90 from MCO to Cabana Bay. I've gone other times when the price was in the $30s, which was great. Once you have more than 3 people, you need an Uber XL because with COVID restrictions, you can't sit in the front anymore.

I'm currently traveling in a party of 8, so the cost of a car service that can accommodate us is probably roughly equivalent to two Uber XL, and we don't have to worry about splitting up or making sure we can get two drivers at the same time. A car service is also extra peace of mind if you have a very late arrival (we are scheduled to land at 11:30 pm) or a very early departure (need to be at the airport around 5am). I've definitely used Uber/Lyft with great results, but there are also times it makes more sense to book a car.

This happened to me too. We got in Sunday night Dec 12th around 930p and the lyft cost $60. When we left the following Tues at 4p to MCO I figured it would be the same being weekday near rush hour and it was $25 and change. So it definitely varies!
