We're on a land/sea package in September with Disney transfers for all of our ground transportation. I'll have my 3-year-old and my 18-month-old and am wondering if we will need their car seats for the Disney transportation. It would definitely be easier to check the carseats with the other luggage if we'll be on a big bus, but don't want to get stuck on a little shuttle van without the seats. My inclination is toward safety, but that means dragging the darn carseats around the boat with us until our room is ready. Anyone with advice out there?

You would be on a bus and there would be no way to secure the car seats. I would get my own transport and use them but that is just me ... s if I fly I would have the car seats with me anyway....I am flying again in 2 weeks with my almost 5 year old and she will again be in her car seat on the airplane and we will just take it from the plane to the rental car and she also uses it in the limo on the way to the airport at home and back.

:sunny: Is it a requirement to have a car seat on the plane? I have a 5 yr. old and hadn't thought about this until I read this question.

You will not be able to use a seat on the plane for your 5 year-old. Because planes only have lap belts you can only use seats that utilize a five point harness, not a seatbelt. I feel comfortable with my 5 year-old without a booster seat on the plane then I rent a booster seat from the car company for the car ride. The alternative would be to check the booster seat with your luggage.

We just did it last year. We chose the Disney busses because you do not need car seats for the infants and children. No different than a school bus, really. Our 6 month old was a lap infant on the plane, and our 3 year old sat in his seat with the regular lap belt.

If we would have gotten a rental car or limo, then we would have had to worry about car seats. Just take the Disney Bus and it is no problem.

my daughter is almost 5 and is still in a 5 point harness....some 5 year olds are smaller than others. I would not feel comfortable with her in a regular booster seat, she is only 30 pounds.
On her school bus all children must be in seat belts.

Thanks for all the replys. :wave2:

She will be okay with just a lap belt and this is one less thing to lug around.

She will also ride the school bus and PA does not have a seat belt requirment for busses.

First time flyer and cruiser and I tend to fuss and worry about details.

Again, thanks.

Good point, I should have specified children over the weight limit of regular carseats. I think it is a matter of personal preference, (Yes, I am putting my flame suit on now) but I did not feel comfortable with my DDs in a bus without carseats so we hired a carservice that supplied the seats. This holds true for us even at home where we make other arrangements for our girls. Maybe I am wrong, but I think I would feel differently about my DD riding the school bus on local roads vs. a bus on major highways traveling at high speeds. There may be no difference, but that is my gut feeling. It is my understanding though that it is legal to have the children on the bus without carseats.

Unfortunately, I started reading messages on this site after my cruise plans were made. If I would have done more research on transportation to and from the airport, I would have realized the car seat issue sooner. My preference would have been a car with a booster seat for her, seatbelts for the other 2 children, myself and my husband, but we have everything set for the DCL bus so I will just drop this issue.

I also would have flown to FL the day before the cruise and just relaxed. These are lessons I will note in my journal for the next trip.
