Car Seat Rental through Enterprise

We are renting a car one day through enterprise. They do not rent the car seats themselves. You have to rent the seat through a 3rd party co. Does anyone know the contact info for that company? We are leaving next Wednesday morning and I can't find the info to call and reserve a seat. The car rental office is closed now so I can't call them.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Gretchen

Assuming you are flying down, will she have her own seat on the plane?? If she does, why not just bring her seat from home and use that? If she doesn't have her own seat, call your airline, you may be able to gate check the carseat. That would be my suggestion, because then you know the safety and accident history of the carseat. Carseats are my thing to be a nutty mom about though ;) Have a great trip!

Thank you for your responses.

It isn't possible to bring our car seat with us (long story). That was my first choice. Seeing as we cannot, we need to rent one in FL.

I will be calling the site that I luv Mickey suggested. I'm feeling pretty safe if Make-a Wish is recommending them.

Thanks, Gretchen

One option (and it may be about the same price as renting a seat) is to stop at a nearby Walmart and pick up an inexpensive seat.

My friend uses a Cosco Scenera as her travel seat. It is only about $40 and most Walmarts and Targets carry it. There are a lot of great seats out there...but this is one of the least expensive. Make sure you get the 5pt version over the overhead shield (5pt is safer).

I would be leary of using a rental seat. You won't know the history (was it in a crash?) and it may not have the instructions w/ it. I've also heard in the past where people have received seats that were filthy or missing major pieces to them!

For our trip in December we are bringing ds' (2yo) seat for him to use on the plane, but nothing for dd (6yo) since she can't use her booster seat on the plane. We are using DME and staying on property for our stay so she won't need the booster while we are there. Dh and I decided that if we wanted to rent a car for a day or so while there, we would run to Walmart and pick up a low back booster for her (about $15) to use. It just isn't worth dragging one w/ us "just in case."

I hope you can work out a solution.

I agree with the others. Rental car seats are a HUGE no-no. You have no way to know the history of the seat, if it is expired/recalled, if it has been damaged, if it has been mis-used, if it has been in a crash, or if it will even be correct type of seat for your child (for example, I have heard of people with toddlers being given a booster seat because that is all they have). You could end up with a seat that does not adequately protect your child or worse, fails miserably in a crash. At the very least, I'd rent the car seat, drive straight to Wal Mart, and buy a new seat to use for the trip.

I was told by a Budget agent that in Florida the law is 4yrs or 40lbs. If the child is under either, he/she would need a car seat. Do you know if this is true?

Unfortunately fl law only requires a carseat through age 3, ages 4 and 5 are required to use a seatbelt but not a carseat. Of course we always used one on vacation as long as they were using one at home regardless of the laws.

Count me in as one who won't use a rental seat. We used one once and for only as long as it took to get to the wallmart and purcase a safe seat for my dd. It was cracked, out of date and dirty.

IMHO using your own seat will insure its installed correctly, its the proper seat for the child and the straps are adjusted and used properly. All airlines allow a carseat to be checked through or gate checked without counting it in your baggage allowance.
