Car Salesmen and Women

I could be driving through a car lot and sales people will come running out to meet me. Do they take turns serving customers or they all get an equal opportunity? What if one saleperson is the first to greet every customer and no other gets a chance?

Fully commissioned salespeople know that this is the way it is in their line of work. I work in IT support for a retail company that pays it's sales staff on commission. Generally their are 'gentlemen's agreements' but bottom line is "he who hustles, makes the money"

wow, you must be really cute! I get a very nice car allowence and the last time I went to buy a car, I could have died in the show room and they still would have walked over me. I mean it, I stood there for 10 minutes waiting for someone to help me, I finally went and asked a guy sitting at a desk by the door for some help with a new car, he hands me a booklet and tells me if I am really interested he would un lock one and let me sit in it. I understand if you look as if you can't afford a new car they ignore you, but I pulled in with a 2001 Taurus wanting to buy a 2002 Toyota wearing a suit. Granted Kathy Bates and I could be sisters, but I do look nice when I work. I took the book back to the office picked out my color and just ordered a company car. This year, I can't order a company car and have to buy my own car with my car allowence. You have no idea how much I dread even looking at cars. This year I get an even bigger allowence and would really like to up grade (maybe an SUV), but I really hate to think of even going in to a show room.

They do me the same way. The salesmen will leave me alone after I tell them I'm just looking, but the saleswomen try to be my "friend".

I found out that this is very, very common in Indiana - no offense Hoosiers - but as a woman auto buyer, we have been treated very badly and often ignored!!!!

And don't try to tell them you have a problem with a new car you just purchased from them either....after all, you are a woman!!!
Sad but true - I have to get DH to come before anything is ever accomplished!

For some reason the dealerships in Florida have locked gates around the lot so in order to even look at a car someone has to come let you in. I went car shopping a little over a month ago, our lease had 4 months left so I thought I would start looking. I told the dealer what I wanted and what monthly payment and boom, I drove home that night in a new car. He didn't try to sell me something more expensive or anything. I think it was the fastest car shopping that I have ever done.

I just bought a car last week. I don't think I was out of my car more than a minute when the manager came out and then got me the salesman who handles internet sales. I got my car that day and very easy time with it.

I would much rather have a sales woman when I go to buy a new car. It just seems like women work harder to get you what you want.

When my brother graduated from pharmacy school, he and I went looking for a new convertible for him. I was 24/25 and he 22/23 then.
Salesmen were willing to talk to us, but not to let us test drive anything. When we went to the BMW dealership, they wouldn't talk to us until they had a pre-qualification from a bank. They gave my brother a booklet though for which he thanked them and told them it would help him select the car he'd buy from a Philadelphia dealership, not one in Scranton.

My former boss' mother decided that she wanted to buy a new cadillac when her DH died. She went to the dealer he always used. She was dressed in a sweatsuit and no one would talk to her. She probably had as much money as the dealership owner, and no one would talk to her. She bought a Lincoln instead and wrote a letter to the Cadillac dealer to tell him so.

BRAVO!!!!!!
