We are flying into Tampa (cheaper than MCO) in November and staying at DVC for 9 days. However, we only need a rental car to and from the airport (and to get groceries on the way there). Is there any way to rent a car at the airport, drop it off somewhere in WDW, and do the same in reverse? It seems very costly to keep the car for 9 days when I only need 2.

Yes. You can do two one-way rentals. National and Alamo have sites on WDW property (Car Care Center and Dolphin I believe). Hertz(?) is just off property by DTD.

We love to use National/Alamo or Enterprise rental location just off of the lobby in the Dolphin resort. Convenient walk to or from Epcot or HS, or just take a bus there from any park or DTD.

I suggest you check out the Mousesavers rental car section to get an overall idea of all of the rental car locations around WDW (there are a ton) and just start plugging in different drop off locations on all of the various rental sites and find your best deal. Good luck:thumbsup2

That is going to be an expensive rental. You might want to compare rental prices with prices for a taxi or a car service.

Edited to add:
Sorry, misread your post. Thought you said you were flying into MCO.

From Tampa? A car rental is the best option. I would suggest looking at it both ways though...2 one way rentals vs renting for the entire time. I have had longer rentals actually come out to be less than 2 one ways!

We have family in Tampa and we will often pick up at one airport and drop off at the other. I would look into renting from Budget as they don't have any one-way fees nor do they increase their base rate for one-way rentals. Budget has an office at one of the hotels on Hotel Blvd.

I would go at www.carsavers.com to start your search.

My experience has been that many agencies do not have the extra one-way rental charge when renting in Florida.:woohoo:

What do you term "expensive"? In June, we did a 1-day, 1-way rental from MCO-FLL for a cruise. $50. Then we did a 3-day, 1-way rental from FLL-MCO after the cruise. $50. Those prices included all the taxes & fees.

It used to be that way, but it's not anymore. Dollar and Thrifty put a specific fee on top of the rate (I believe it's $50). Alamo and National simply charge more for the base rate of a one-way rental that a rental where you drop off where you pick up. I'm not sure about Avis and Hertz. I do know that Budget doesn't play games with one-way rentals.

:confused3

I just checked online a random day (mid-size; NOV-10) with Alamo and the base rate to pick up at TPA and drop off at Disney Car Care Center was $10 less than pick up and drop off at TPA. Total cost $10 cheaper to rent one-way.

I checked Dollar and the cost was identical between TPA pick-up and drop-off and TPA pick-up with drop off at Lake Buena Vista-Holiday Inn or drop-off at MCO.

Does anyone know what the dropoff address/location is at WDW? I want to be sure that I am entering the correct info when I book it.

It depends on where you want to drop off. If using Alamo/National, it would be at either the Dolphin or the Car Care Center. If using a different company, it won't be 'onsite'. For instance...Budget is located at the Doubletree Guest Suites in DTD. Other companies have counters in various other DTD resorts.
